Cover Story From Campus Asia Magazine Vol. 3 no.13, March - May 2010.
It appears that the world is becoming increasingly secular. Dr. Gary A. Miller, Executive Vice Chancellor of Universitas Pelita Harapan responds to the problems assosiated with secular society in arecent article from Campus Asia.
“I am not absolutely convinced that democracy in itself is the central issue that causes people to be corrupt. I believe the problem begins with human nature. Although it may seem that democracy contributes to the problems associated with secularism through its generous freedoms, it truly lies in the hearts of the people who comprise the democracy. Thus, democracy and materialism are not in themselves, evil. It is what people choose to do with them that is the real challenge. Change must occur in the human heart before a society can be positively affected.”
Gary A. Miller, Ph.D., is the Executive Vice Chancellor of Universitas Pelita Harapan
