Student Testimonials

Joana Lea Koehler
From Technische Universität Ilmenau (TU Ilmenau), Germany
"I think UPH is a very modern University with great facilities. I'm still learning about UPH but I have a very good first impression. Compared with Germany the rules here are more strict and the religion plays a much greater role in the daily routine, but that is part of the culture and it's a great experience. I have had a very good start in my first classes. Afterwards we had lunch together with our new classmates and started to get to know each other. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. It felt good to finally get to now some indonesian students just like us and to exchange about the culture and our experiences. We also met some other exchange student which are all very nice, too. I think it's going to be a great semester with all these people here."

"I love living in the dorm and meeting the girls around here. They are always so friendly. I enjoy the community kitchen and living room; the space allows us to share our lives together while not leaving our home. UPH has been very hospitable to me. International Relations staff have done an excellent job at making sure I am doing well. The MYC staff have also been so kind to welcome me into the dorm and make me feel at home. Classes are set up very differently at UPH than they are at my university back at home. A much larger percentage of my grade is based only on a mid-term and a final test. At home, I have assignments, readings, papers, and assignments that keep me busy everyday. The extra free time here is nice, but this set up places much pressure on only a few grades."

"UPH is the best choice. The campus environment is very important. UPH Facilities, curriculum, and student activity programs support us to study and socialize with students who come from various cultural backgrounds. UPH also provides classes in English and Indonesian with an international curriculum. In addition, there is ICS (International Community for Students), the place to share knowledge and culture, help students to learn to understand and accept each other."

"When I heard that my university has a partnership with an Indonesian university, I definitely wanted to spend my semester abroad there. UPH offers the unique possibility for me to get to know a different culture and get to know a lot of friendly people. Furthermore UPH has a really nice clean campus, well equipped facilities and offers high quality education. I really enjoy my time at UPH.

"Going abroad to Indonesia, a country that’s still developing brings a lot of opportunities, it’s the right place for dreams to become reality, to improve yourself and become successful.
UPH has a pleasant environment that offers a wide range off facilities for students and staff members. Besides that the lectures at UPH are given by professionals, experts with a strong background or still operational in their field of specialization.
They act as a source of inspiration that share; experience, knowledge and build a relationship with the students to become at their level.
The University is not only about knowledge but also about how to become successful, be ambitious and Have faith in yourself and also in God.

"UPH is a great way to broaden your experience as an international or exchange student.
As UPH has a lot of good facilities, is located on top of your everyday needs as a student and is packed with a lot of interesting personnel. UPH also has got a lot of activities during and after school time; salsa dance classes, festivals, events, etc. As an exchange student UPH will be a good choice if you are looking for a good educational and cultural program.

"The reason I chose to do my exchange program in Indonesia is because, my parents are from Indonesia so the country was already familiar for me. I have a lot of good experiences here in UPH. I think it's also nice that the school offers some extra curriculum activities after school. Like for example dance, acting etc. I would definitely recommend future exchange students to study here at UPH.

"UPH is one of the leading universities in Indonesia. The Campus offers good facilities and small classes; it is also a nice and very clean place. Everyone gave me a warm reception. The students are coming from all over the world, open minded and so friendly. There are many people with different background, but it feels like one big family. My Bahasa Indonesia is still not good at all, shame on me, so it was not always easy to communicate with the people around me. The staff and the lectures have been really helpful, even outside of the classes, at the end every problem was solved. A smile is the shortest distance between two people and doesn't need a translation. When I arrived at the campus for the first time, one of the lectures greeted me in fluent german, I was stunned. I didn't expect that at all. Overall, it is one unique experience, I had an amazing time during my stay at UPH. I will keep the memories for the rest of my life."

"I think, UPH is a good university with good facilities such as the clean buildings, the library, the fitness centre, the food court and many other facilities. It reminds me of an American university. If you compare the university to other universities in Indonesia, I think UPH has better quality. At first, I really didn't have a good time here in UPH but that changed after a few months, and now I am enjoying myself here. Because I can speak a bit Bahasa Indonesia, I can usually save myself from any problems. Otherwise, I'll use English and usually everybody understands me. I don't have any troubles expressing myself. The most memorable moment I had here at UPH was the moment when I sang at the Cafe of Arts in March. In the end, I would have to say I had a good time throughout the semester, the fun times started out late but eventually everything was very nice at the end."

"UPH is an excellent place to study with nice facilities. Karawaci is also nice, the city is quite small and the transportation from my kost to UPH is good. Karawaci has some nice restaurants and shopping mall. I also really like my friends here at UPH. The difficulties I had could be the Indonesian language. I can speak Indonesian language, but not fluently and it’s annoying when a group only speaks in Indonesian. The most memorable highlight for me was joining EPIC-Lifegroup. This was a beautiful experience and since then I met a lot of friends. Overall, I must say, the experience I had here at UPH was life-changing."

Zainal Anis

"I feel that UPH is quite a large university, especially compared to my school in the Netherlands. The facilities are very good, I could find almost anything I needed in UPH. I'm talking about the Snoopy Copy & Print, FJ, MYC, Library etc. About UPH itself, I think it's an university with a good name and image.
I came to UPH with an open mind without actually knowing what to expect. Soon enough, I was pleasantly surprised with my stay at UPH. Whenever I mentioned to someone that I studied at UPH, I got positive reactions. My initial thought when I arrived at Karawaci was: "It looks rather different than Jakarta." I noticed that it was pretty clean and more organized than I expected. I really liked the Benton Junction, because the style of outdoor dining reminded me a bit of my hometown Amsterdam.
During my stay, I often went to the Supermal nearby, just to browse around or eat lunch at the Food Court there. Eventually after a while, I wanted to see more than Karawaci so every weekend I went to Jakarta, because I think there's more variety there. Whenever I went to Jakarta, I took the Lippo Bus. The bus station is near the Supermal. It was very convenient for me. At first, I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to understand most people, but I soon realized that almost everyone could speak English good enough for me to understand them. Of course, I know some basic Indonesian language so that helped a lot too. Other than the language, I think the difference in culture was an obvious factor that I needed to adjust to. I got to know various friends in UPH who welcomed me here. I'm very thankful to them for making me feel welcome here and made my time in UPH more enjoyable! They helped me out when I needed something or had any questions.
My experience in UPH is something that shall remain in my memory for a long time. I've had good times, but also some difficult times. I'm glad that I've met some friends that made me in a good mood whenever I had a bad day. Another thing that I need to mention is that ICS is doing a great job, I hope they continue what they're doing bringing international students and UPH students together, organizing fun events etc! Finally, I also want to thank the International Office staff for helping me out alot. In the end, I can actually say that I had a great time at UPH!"
