UPH Establishes Research Cooperation with UNSW Australia

 Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia have agreed to conduct research collaborations on health and nanotechnology. The cooperation between these two institutions also includes the lecturer's exchange for further study and scientific collaboration. In terms of student research, this cooperation provides an exchange opportunity for students to conduct research. The two sides also agreed to conduct joint events both in the form of research projects and annual research workshops, to encourage collaborative research in specific research in the areas of both sides’ common interest.

 

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was conducted by UPH Rector Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak and Professor Laura Poole-Warren as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research Training) UNSW, on September 28, 2017, at UPH Medical Science Build Room 201 UPH. Mochtar Riyadi, founder, and chairman of the Lippo Group also present at the event, as well as Dr. Gunawaty Tjioe, B.Ed., M.Pd. which is the UPH Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Prof. George Mathew, MBBS, MS, MD, FCAMS., President of Lippo Medical Science.

 

Not just that, some research-related seminars in the field of health and nanotechnology were presented on 28 September before the signing of this collaboration, such as “Nanoparticle-based immunosensors for the detection of virus and biomarkers" by Fabio Lisi from UNSW Sydney, "Challenges in Tuberculosis Control in Indonesia; Innovations are greatly needed" by dr. Bachti Alisjahbana, Sp.PD-KPTI, Ph.D. a Faculty of Medicine Padjadjaran University lecturer.

 

On the next day, 29 September, the activity was followed by seminar "Hepatitis B in Indonesia: From Research Findings to Clinical and Societal Benefits" with speaker; Prof. David Handojo Muljono, an Academy Professor Indonesia, Senior Research Fellow, and Specialist Physician Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, and a seminar from MRIN titled "Investigating the Effects of Metformin on Human Colon Cancer Cell Lines" by Dr.rer.nat Bustanur Rosidi.

 

The University of New South Wales (UNSW), located in Kensington, Sydney is the third rank university in Australia. This collaboration is expected to strengthen the research activities and provide benefits for both parties.
