UPH Launches Primary Care and Family Medicine Specialist Doctor Education Program to Support Government Meet National Doctors Needs.

Tangerang, 20 January 2023 – Pelita Harapan University Faculty of Medicine (UPH FoM) has launched the Primary Care and Family Medicine Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS KKLP) for its first batch of students, beginning on March 2, 2023. Working general practitioners who have been in practice for at least one year, with an active medical practice permit (SIP), can now register for the program.

UPH Rector, Dr. (Hon.) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng. Sc., stated that the launch of the PPDS KKLP aimed to support the government’s efforts to meet the need for national doctors, as outlined in the Joint Decree (SKB) between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health in July 2022.

“We are grateful for the permit to open PPDS KKLP at UPH, as family medicine has been proven to provide comprehensive benefits to public health services worldwide. Family doctors will play a critical role in the future of public health services, and we hope to contribute to producing competent specialist doctors to improve the quality of health services in Indonesia,” said UPH Rector.

Family doctors provide primary health care to patients and are responsible for offering continuing care, medical diagnosis and treatment, providing support and information on disease prevention, diagnostics and treatment, as well as health education, early detection of disease, preventive therapy, and behavioral changes to patients.

Prof. Dr. Dr. dr. Eka Julianta Wahjoepramono Sp. Bs., Dean of UPH UPH FoM, explained that PPDS KKLP graduates would get Doctor Sp KKLP title upon completion and can work in primary health facilities as family doctors. The lectures will be held at the UPH Lippo Village FoM campus for seven semesters.

“As an educational institution affiliated with health facilities, we are fully aware of the community’s high demand for KKLP Specialist Doctor services,” Eka added. “The presence of KKLP Specialist Doctors will transform the system and the quality of education services, as well as strengthen services at primary health care facilities.”

PPDS KKLP is UPH’s second medical specialist doctor education program, with the first one being PPDS Radiology which was introduced last year. UPH is committed to meeting the needs of the Indonesian people and producing leaders who are competent, professional, and equipped with true knowledge, faith in God, and godly character. The university offers 100 study programs with relevant curricula and highly competent lecturers.
