Webinar ini menghadirkan Darius Bunandar, Ph.D., selaku Chief Scientist dan Founder dari Lightmatter, sebagai pembicara yang membahas penggunaan prosesor fotonik dimana ini dapat mempercepat sekaligus menghemat daya dari prosesor untuk <em>Artificial Intelligence (AI).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Fotonika merupakan disiplin ilmu yang mempelajari tentang interaksi antara cahaya dan material, khususnya menekankan pada perangkat dan juga sistem berbasis cahaya. Dalam presentasinya, Darius Bunandar menjelaskan tantangan dunia elektronik saat ini dan bagaimana cahaya dapat dijadikan sebuah alat untuk mengakselerasi AI melalui <em>photonic computing. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>?Saat ini fenomena <em>dark silicon<\/em> telah terjadi dimana kita tidak bisa menggunakan prosesor sepenuhnya sekaligus tanpa membuatnya terbakar. Dengan kata lain kita hampir menyentuh batas penggunaan teknologi transistor, namun di saat yang sama <em>computer requirements<\/em> untuk AI semakin bertumbuh pesat. Solusinya adalah fokus pada <em>GeMM (General Matrix Multiplication),?<\/em> papar Darius.<\/p>\n<p>Lightmatter berhasil membuat prosesor fotonik yang mampu melakukan operasi GEMM dengan kecepatan dan penghematan daya lebih baik daripada prosesor komersial yang ada saat ini. Lightmatter juga akan mengeluarkan prosesor fotonik bernama ?Envise?, dibuat dengan teknologi silikon fotonik yang memiliki <em>interface<\/em> ke <em>chip<\/em> elektronik sementara proses GEMM dilakukan secara <em>optic<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Melalui webinar ini, Dr. Marincan Pardede, S.Si., M.Si., selaku Ketua Prodi Teknik Elektro UPH, berharap cabang ilmu fotonika yang belum terlalu dikenal oleh masyarakat luas Indonesia dapat lebih dikenali fungsi dan perannya dalam perkembangan teknologi saat ini.<\/p>\n<p>?Pada zaman sekarang, begitu pentingnya era AI di dalam perkembangan Industri 4.0. Pekerjaan manusia sekarang sudah dapat lebih mudah dengan adanya perkembangan teknologi AI. Tentunya, hal ini sangat penting untuk diketahui oleh masyarakat, terutama mahasiswa kami di UPH karena ini ada kaitannya juga dengan teknologi cahaya yang akan dipelajari dan sangat berguna di masa depan,?
