Monday, January 22, 2018 Pelita Harapan School of Hospitality and Tourism (STPPH) hosted the HILDIKTIPARI national workshop (Himpunan Lembaga Pendidikan Tinggi Pariwisata Indonesia) <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Monday, January 22, <\/span>2018 Pelita Harapan School of Hospitality and Tourism (STPPH)<\/span> hosted the HILDIKTIPARI national workshop (Himpunan Lembaga Pendidikan Tinggi Pariwisata Indonesia) with the theme “Early Warning System (EWS)” Recognition of Early Warning System (EWS). The event which took place in UPH Karawaci Building D, 5th floor, room 502 was attended by approximately 100 participants coming from academic groups of Higher Education, HILDIKTIPARI Members, Ministry, and other invited guests. The attendees came from various regions such as Medan, West Sumatera, Batam, Bogor, Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Lombok, and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To welcome this event, Rector of UPH, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M. Eng.Sc. gave his speech and expressed his gratitude for their trust to UPH to become the host of this national workshop. On this occasion, the Rector informed about ONE UPH, the unification of UPH Karawaci, UPH Surabaya, UPH Medan, and STPPH to become one institution.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In relation to this workshop, the Rector emphasized the importance of education in tourism, because tourism is an important sector in this country.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Tourism is believed to be one of the leading sectors of the largest foreign exchange contributors in Indonesia. Tourism plays an important role in Indonesia, especially because God has given Indonesia extraordinary tourism sites. Therefore, with this gift, let us manage this sector as well as possible, “said the Rector.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Not only seeing the important role of the tourism sector, the Rector also reminded that the progress of the tourism must be balanced with the availability of quality Human Resource (HR).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“The human resources that must be prepared are those who understand the value of tourism, tourism that is capable of raising human dignity, appreciate the value of Indonesian culture, and maintain the environment of Indonesia. For that, I am grateful to STPPH for their commitment to emphasize education centered on the human character, because this kind of education will produce graduates who can manage the tourism sector well. Not only that, I am proud as the Rector to inform that STPPH has been accredited A institutionally, along with each of their Study Programs (Prodi). Therefore, I hope that UPH alumni will become graduates who are able to improve Indonesia?s tourism sector with values that I have mentioned before,” explained the Rector.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the end of his speech, the Rector also reminded that the current era of tourism has moved into the era of Digital Tourism. But, again, he emphasized that the advancement of this technology must still be centered on the quality of human resources.<\/span><\/div>\n

After the Rector’s welcome, Dr. Diena Mutiara Lemy, A.Par, M.M. – Head of School of Hospitality and Tourism of Pelita Harapan who also serves as Secretary General of HILDIKTIPARI, officially opened this national workshop as a representative for HILDIKTIPARI Chairman Suhendroyono, S.H., M.M., M.Par.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

In line with what the rector conveyed, Diena also emphasized that the importance of the human <\/span>resource to sustain the tourism sector is getting stronger. To produce a qualified <\/span>human resource, academic institutions are required to have a competent teaching staff in accordance with Indonesian laws and regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“The Government of Indonesia requires that teachers in universities must meet the minimum standard of master?s degree with the inline education path of each stratum pursued by prospective teachers. This means that the Tourism lecturers must at least have a master?s degree and a diploma in Tourism. Seeing this constraint, there is the RPL Policy which is considered to be a way out of this obstacle, which will be our topic of discussion today, “explained Diena.<\/span>

At the opening of this event, Prof. Azril Azahari from ICPI (Indonesian Tourism Intellectuals Association) attended and explained about the program ‘World Tourism Day’ initiated by 3 organizations namely ICPI, PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association), and HILDIKTIPARI. In relation to this workshop, Prof. Azril said that every part involved, including the government, should increasingly focus on tourism development. This is the aim of the three organizations when initiating this program with the peak event held annually on September 27th<\/sup> starting from 2018. Prof. Azril also calls for every educational institution that supports this program to enroll and take activities as part of this event.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n

It is expected that through this event, the academics will focus on improving the quality of tourism in accordance with their role, and utilizing the RPL and EWS policies discussed.(mt)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
