On 19 – 21 October 2017 the UPH Conservatory of Music held a series of concerts “A Musical Feast” featuring a powerful pianist Chi-Kit Lam, Albert Tiu, and Stefina P. Wibisono with UPH Symphony Orchestra led by Michael Budiman. The event was immediately greeted with one big event annual MUSICAPHORIA on 23 – 29 October 2017. The event initiated by UPH music students is a showcase of various specialization programs in the UPH Conservatory of Music. It includes elements of staging, assessment, creation, education, and the art governance.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The scientific culture in music is felt in the programs held by Conservatory of Music (CoM) UPH. As revealed by the dean of UPH Faculty of Arts, Antonius Sugeng Priyanto :<\/span>

“At UPH Conservatory of Music, we not only promote the aesthetic music presentation in high aesthetically but also develop critical assessment and creation of authentic and diverse musical works. Our commitment is to produce graduates who are not only proficient in playing music but have sufficient academic insights and skills. We are committed building a conducive academic culture on campus; an environment that provides an exciting space for lecturers and students to develop research in art and music. We also encourage lecturers and students to be involved and concerned with the problems that exist in the community, to be able to provide a constructive response to the existing problems. Music has great potential and role in advancing the quality of life of individuals and communities. Therefore through various community service programs, we strive to continue to be relevant in responding to the needs that exist in society through art and music. The role of art leadership and advocacy has not been getting much attention, this is a great opportunity. “<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

CoM UPH offered seven art courses relevant to the development of the art music and has a great opportunity for UPH CoM graduates to work in the community. The seven courses are Classical Performance, Jazz and Pop Performance, Music Composition, Music Education, Music Therapy, Performing Arts Production and Management, and Sound Design and Music Production.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Conservatory of Music UPH has the vision to be a model of excellence for holistic and transformational music education in Indonesia. Built on the pillar of True Knowledge, Faith in Christ and Divine Character, UPH Conservatory of Music is committed to developing music education, research in music and community service in a qualified and relevance learning. Students of UPH CoM are trained in a program designed to form a competent, professional, and God-fearing graduates. The holistic learning approach enables them to understand their life and vocation as Artist-Musician, Artist-Scholar, and Leader in Musical Culture in an accurate and coherent framework of the Christian world.<\/span><\/p>\n

“That we formulate in our three graduate profiles, which is the first thing, to produce music artist. Graduates, who are skilled at playing music, also need to have the soul of the artist. For the example, the Sound design program aims not only to born an operator but to produce artists in a sound technology field. Indeed, students are trained to develop skills in sound processing using the latest sound technology, but must always put forward the soul of art in the process. So they are taught the concept of aesthetics, taught the thoughts and rules of the rules of the art, certainly in the context of Sound Design.<\/span><\/p>\n

Profile of the second graduate is an academic artist. It distinguishes it from informal music education or other music schools. All courses from the 1st through 4th years are designed to produce academic artists or artists who have accurate world insights, who have the skills to study, analyze and make quality art judgments. And the third graduate profile, to produce a leader in the art world. This is important and deep. Finally, their relevance of learning is directed for them to play an active and redemptive role in the art world. Where they play music, they should be a leader that influences and inspires others.<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore we educate them not only to be great people for themselves but to be able to see their calling. To dedicate their knowledge to others, communities, and society. These three profiles are understood and formed within a framework of a biblical Christian worldview. “<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Looking through the UPH CoM Calendar of Events which is filled with various music plans every month, this promising a ‘musical feast’ for the entire community of Pelita Harapan University and the art lovers in general. It is an invitation for every one of us to share in enjoying, appreciating the beautiful and exquisite works of music created through the composers which are nothing but a reflection of the majesty and beauty of God.<\/span><\/p>\n
