Rabu, 26 April 2017 Universitas Pelita Harapan Center for International Trade and Investment (UPH-CITI) mengadakan seminar bertemakan  entitled ?Trade and the Rule of Law in the Trump Era?.  Seminar ini didukung oleh Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) ? World Trade Institute (WTI) Academic Cooperation.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Seminar ini dimoderatori oleh Jessica Marpaung ? Universitas Pelita Harapan dan menghadirkan tiga pembicara kunci yaitu : Prof. Michael Ewing Chow ? National University of Singapore, Paolo Vergano ? Fratini Vergano European Lawyers and Dr. Michelle Limenta ? UPH-CITI. Bersamaan dengan acara ini juga diadakan juga peluncuran buku dengan judul ?WTO Retaliation: Effectiveness and Purposes? karya dari Dr. Michelle Limenta.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sebelum seluruh acara berlangsung Prof. Dr. Bintan Saragih, S.H. ? Dekan dari Fakultas Hukum (FH) UPH menyampaikan apresiasinya kepada seluruh pembicara yang telah mendukung acara ini dan juga mengucapkan selamat kepada Dr. Limenta untuk peluncuran bukunya.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Seminar dilanjutkan dengan panel diskusi. Prof. Ewing-Chow membagikan pandangannya bahwa kini kita hidup di dunia yang sedang mengalami perubahan dan ada tiga issue yang sedang dihadapi dunia ini. Pertama, liberalisasi perdagangan kini dipandang sebelah mata dan kurang dihargai. Kedua, lapangan pekerjaan semakin berkurang dan sumber daya manusia semakin digantikan dengan kehadiran teknologi. Ketiga, gerakan masyarakat semakin terlihat jelas dibandingkan beberapa tahun lalu. Prof . Ewing memperlihatkan  bahwa tiga hal inilah yang memicu pertumbuhan popularitas paham proteksionisme  dan membuat masyarakat menyalahkan dampak  perdagangan internasional.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n


Diskusi ini dilanjutkan oleh Paolo Vergano dengan menjelaskan bahwa masyarakat melihat perdagangan adil secara berbeda.  Paolo setuju dengan Prof. Ewing-Chow bahwa memang dunia saat ini sedang mengalami perubahan dan negara-negara harus mulai mempersiapkan diri untuk menghadapi segala perubahan. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Berbeda dengan dua pembicara sebelumnya,  Dr. Limenta lebih membahas mengenai tiga point penting dari Kebijakan Perdagangan President Amerika di tahun 2017. Pertama, Amerika berencana untuk lebih focus pada negosiasi  bilateral dibanding negosiasi multilateral. Kedua, kekhawatiran Amerika terhadap langkah yudisial dari penyelesaian perselisihan WTO, dan ketiga terkait kedaulatan Amerika  atas keputusan WTO.<\/span><\/p>\n

Diskusi ini dilanjutkan dengan sesi tanya jawab. Acara kali ini dihadiri lebih dari 45 peserta yang berasal dari beragam latar belakang, termasuk dari agensi pemerintahan, firma hokum, kedutaan, bisnis, media, akademisi, peneliti, dan mahasiswa.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
