On Saturday, September 3, 2016, UPH Faculty of Medicine hosted the ?National Seminar for Doctor Profession Program Competency Test 2016?, which was held by Association of Indonesian Medical Education Reviewer or Perhimpunan Pengkaji Ilmu Pendidikan Kedokteran Indonesia<\/span> (PERPIKI). This National Seminar was followed by 96 experts of Indonesia?s medical education, as well as a number of Deans from 16 Faculties of Medicine in various region of Indonesia such as, UPH, UI, UPN, Universitas Lampung, UMJ, UNSWAGATI Cirebon, Unika Atmajaya, UMY, Universitas  Islam Al-Azhar Mataram, UNAIR, Ukrida, FKIK Jambi, UKI, UNPATTI, Malahayati and Udayana.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A number of Indonesian medical education experts attended this seminar, among them were Prof. dr. Marcellus Simadibrata, Ph.D., Sp.PD-KGEH., Head of PERPIPKI; dr. Nani Cahyani Sudarsono, SpKO., Head of National Committee the Medical Profession Program Student Competency Test or Panitia Nasional Uji Kompetensi Mahasiswa Program Profesi Dokter<\/span><\/em> (PN-UKMPPD);<\/span> dr. H. Ahmad Aulia Jusuf, AHK., Ph.D., a representative of the Histology Department of the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia; and also Prof.dr. Mpu Kanoko, Ph.D, former Head of PERPIKI (2008-2015). At the occasion the Rector of UPH, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M. Eng. Sc., the representative of IDI Banten, and the Head of Education Division the Indonesian Medical Council, were also present.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to Prof. Marcellus, the main goal of this seminar is to improve the competence of all those who are involved in preparing the future of Indonesian doctors, starting from the teaching staffs up to the medical education institution itself. Hopefully, this seminar could give positive impacts for the readiness of the future doctors of Indonesia, in facing the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

?UKMPPD has been held since 2007 and The competency test is in the realm of education and becomes one of the requirements for graduation of students of the medical profession <\/span>all over Indonesia. It is done to guarantee their quality when they serve the society in the future,? said Prof. Marcellus.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He also explained that the result of the competency test for Indonesian doctors had not yet reached 100%. ?Some universities had already been capable of showing good passing grade. For example, according to the data, the Faculty of Medicine UI is in 80-90% while the UPH Faculty of Medicine is in 90%,? he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But even so, there are still many aspects in the need of improvement in order to enhance the quality of medical education in Indonesia. A number of attempts have been done, such as changing the learning method, which used to be teacher-centered method, to a student-centered, where all students are responsible for their own individual studies and students? activeness is the key of this method?s success.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On the other side, an even distribution of quality for medical education in Indonesia is still being considered by PN-UKMPPD. ?The competency test in the suburbs and the cities have the same standards. All medicinal students will receive 80% of national content and 20% of local content in their studies. Thus, UKMPPD focuses on the national content even more,? said dr. Nani, the Head of PN-UKMPPD.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Responding towards the quality distribution, dr. Aulia started talking, ?Indeed, the quality distribution for medical education in Indonesia still needs many improvements. We really hope that graduates from the suburbs and other regions, may have the same quality with medical students in the big cities.?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Opening Speech by the Rector of UPH, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

At the same occasion, the Rector of UPH, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., conveyed his appreciation towards PERPIPKI who held this seminar. Regarding the quality of medical education in the  UPH Faculty of Medicine, the Rector talked about the recent developments, such as the construction of the new campus buildings and the modern lecture facilities which are guaranteed to support the learning process of these medical students. The Rector also reported the development of Siloam Clinics in various regions, as the partner of the UPH Faculty of Medicine. One of the Siloam Clinics in Daboto-Papua, has just started operating.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Hopefully, the UPH Faculty of Medicine, as one of a medical education institution in Indonesia, can contribute in improving and advancing the quality of medical education in Indonesia.<\/span><\/p>\n
