Lippo Village, August 18, 2016 was the first day of the 23rd<\/sup> UPH Festival. At that day, the news students of UPH got to know their seniors who belong to the mentor community, these mentors will guide then throughout their campus orientation. Approximately, 600 mentors from various majors in UPH were present at the mentoring session on the 23rd<\/sup> UPH Festival. In this session, mentors had to guide six to eight students within the small groups.<\/span><\/p>\n

?<\/p>\n

This event was held to draw new students closer with their seniors and other freshmen from other majors. These mentors have to explain many things to their juniors, starting from college life, the campus environment and they also have to give motivation to their mentees in the sharing session.<\/span><\/p>\n

?<\/p>\n

During the session, many new students looked really eager to hear every direction and explanation from their mentors. Delfi, a new student International Relation student from Tangerang, felt really thankful for this mentoring community because it helps him a lot as a new student. ?The mentors really helped me to know a lot of things, because as a new student, there are a lot of things that I didn?t know about campus life. Aside from that, this mentoring program also helped me to know even more students from different faculties.?<\/span><\/p>\n

?<\/p>\n

In this mentoring session, several chief mentors pointed out the uniqueness of the mentoring program that UPH held because this community is a non-structured community, where no one is greater than another. In this program, every student is trained to grow together and to learn through serving another, and of course, with the assistance of the mentors, who had previously been selected and trained for the task.<\/span><\/p>\n

?<\/p>\n

One of the chief mentors, Gaby, Food Technology 2014, who came from Balikpapan, felt that the mentoring program is very important, especially in helping students to adapt to the new environment of a campus. She also felt very grateful to be able to help new students in this orientation program.<\/span><\/p>\n

?<\/p>\n

?<\/p>\n

?I think, mentors are very important, especially to assist and guide the new students through their orientation program and to introduce them to the new campus environment. With the existence of mentors, new students could adapt easily to the new environment and adaptation means a lot for those students who came from other cities, like me. I?m very grateful and very happy that I can share my life and grow with them, even though sometimes, I think that it would be hard to maintain their motivation,? Gaby explained. This mentoring session was then closed with a dinner, as they enjoy the performance from the UPH band. (hc)<\/span><\/p>\n
