Onno W. Purbo Invites Two High School Students from SMA Asisi for Direct Practice using Arduino as a Component of IOT<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Falcon Project 7 which was established by Student Association of Computer Science on May 16-20, 2016, aims to motivate young generations such as university and high school students to become more familiar with the innovations of internet technology. One of the emerging technological innovation trends is the Internet of Things (IoT), and this becomes the main topic of a seminar named IoT for Smart City, presented by Onno Widodo Purbo as a speaker. This seminar took place on the second day of the event, May 17, 2016 at UPH Karawaci room D 502, Lippo Village, Tangerang.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Onno W. Purbo is a leader and expert in the field of technology from Indonesia. He is also known as an educator, author, conference speaker, and activist who fights for Linux.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

As stated by the Dean for Faculty of Computer Science, Wellianto Halim, B.Sc., M.M., the arrival of Onno W. Purbo is an extraordinary opportunity. “We sincerely thank Mr. Onno who took his time to attend UPH and share his knowledge. Moreover, IoT itself that is now widely used and becomes a trending topic to be discussed. In the future, we expect to continue communicating with Mr. Onno to learn a lot and we seek to implement ?smart campus? for UPH,? Wellianto said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this interactive seminar, Onno explained what IoT is, as well as an easy way of making and using it with simple tools. Onno himself provided more experiments on the IoT device rather than explaining the concepts and theories. To support the clarity of concepts and theories, Onno gave participants the freedom to access materials associated to IoT and others related to technology easily. This is done simply by creating an account at Cyberlearning.web.id and by reading the moodle available.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back to the topic of IoT, “IoT itself is a microcontroller\/embedded hardware connected to various sensors which have an Internet network connected to a server that will collect data from the sensors,” Onno said.<\/p>\n

In addition, Onno also explained the simple components needed to make the IoT device, such as Arduino, Arduino Ethernet Shield, server, and several other supporting tools. Onno also described several examples of the use of IOT which  are really helpful, one of which is executed by the Local Government through Petajakarta.org with an open street map basis where, through sensors placed on every water gate around Jakarta, public can access Petajakarta.org to see the water level. As a further action, the sensor will send information regarding water levels which can be viewed through symbol color changes in the sensor at petajakarta.org. Red signifies a worrying level while green is used to symbolize a normal water level.<\/span><\/p>\n

The remaining time of the seminar was used by Onno to directly invite two students to access the use of IoT with Arduino. This seminar certainly received a positive response from approximately 150 participants consisting of high school and university students from UPH Computer Science, characterized by the emergence of questions thrown to Onno related to the topics.
