This time, UPH Architecture with the three students cohort 2014, Melody Christy, Yohana Widjaja, and Natasha were selected to participate in one of prestigious art exhibitions in Indonesia ?Pameran Seni Rupa Karya Mahasiswa Indonesia 2015: Nala­r | Sensasi | Seni? on 9-23 April 2015 which was held at Galeri Nasional Indonesia <\/em>(Indonesia National Gallery).<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Released from the Galeri Nasional Indonesia<\/em> official website, this event was a realization of one function of Galeri Nasional Indonesia <\/em>in terms of conducting exhibitions and education service in fine arts. The theme of Nala­r | Sensasi | Seni<\/em> (Reasoning, Sensation, Art) was chosen by the Curator Team, Suwarno Wisetrotomo, Citra Smara Dewi, and Rizki A. Zaelani, Bayu Genia Krishbie as the Assistant Curator, to provide spaces of expressions for university students who have interest and potentials in fine arts by offering opportunities to showcase quality (idea, reasoning, and visual) which comprises of creative process, reasoning formula, art production, sensation management, and art articulation (communication). This theme was thus translated by the participants (students) into the works of art to be registered to the Open Application as the initial stage of this exhibition. The Open Application which was started since February 2015 until 13 March 2015 gained high enthusiasms from the students. It was proven by more than 500 participants registered on this exhibition with 1000 artworks, from 67 higher institutions in 13 provinces in Indonesia and 2 (two) higher institutions from abroad (Singapore and China). After going through a tight selection process by the Curator Team of Galeri Nasional Indonesia<\/em>, 105 participants with 105 artworks from 27 higher institutions in 10 provinces in Indonesia were qualified. The artworks comprised of paintings, drawings, photography, graphic design, mural arts, batik arts, statue, ceramic arts, installations, and art video. <\/span><\/p>\n

Melody, Yohana, and Natasha stated that a comprehensive concept and impressive presentations were the key for the artworks to be selected. ?I personally did not expect that my works would be chosen, since initially it was just a mock-up designed for Basic Design Studio class at UPH, also the lecturers totally supported us to submit our works. We were also the only Architecture major students to join in, where others came from art major,? expressed Natasha. Melody also stated that the benefit of joining this exhibition could add more portfolios. ?To be chosen to exhibit my artwork at Galeri Nasional Indonesia<\/em> makes my parents proud of me,? said Yohana. <\/span><\/p>\n

According to Andreas Yanuar, UPH Architecture lecturer who was also the mentor of the three students stated that to be selected to showcase an artwork at Galeri Nasional<\/em> is one of the highest achievement a student can receive since it is the most prestigious art space for national level. ?Besides students could apply their lessons from Basic Design Studio class at UPH, through this exhibition, students could be an inspiration for spirit of competition, raise awareness that artworks should be accountable to the public, and students could gain more knowledge and exposure in regards to the art practices in Indonesia,? explained Andreas. In addition to publication aspect, Andreas expected this exhibition could be the precedent for other students that their created artworks could gain public appraisal in much bigger scale. KEPAKAN SAYAP<\/em> (Flapping Wings)
Melody Christy ? UPH Architecture 2014
<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>My artwork is an application of reasoning and sensation which was realized without being long winded while showing my intention, the wings that flutter smoothly. This artwork is entitled “Flapping Wings”. Flapping comes from the word ‘flap’ which means flutter, move up and down (KBBI). And wings mean any of a number of specialized paired appendages that enable some animals (bird, etc) to fly, in particular (KBBI). Through that meaning, I observed the bird’s wings that move up and down. I changed that movement in a form of mechanisms and its compositions.<\/span> <\/p>\n

MEMENCAR SENANG<\/em> (Dispersion of Happiness)
Natasha ? UPH Architecture 2014
<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The emotion\/verb keyword is dispersion of hapiness. Dispersion means spread out, scatter, dissolve. Something that has a center, which started small and through some processes, develop, steer clear of the center point, and turn back small. Happiness means joy, merry, festive. Looked at those two words, I thought of the happy moments. New year’s eve with fire works. Thus, I took the essence of fireworks. The installation movement from bottom up gradually represents the process of fireworks that creates a sensation of hapiness to the spectators. Meanwhile, the open-close movement on the installation on its center represents one small point that disperses and spreads out to different direction. The elements were made festive like a firework which made 8 sides met at one point. <\/span><\/p>\n

H<\/span><\/em>ENTAKAN AMARAH<\/em> (Pounding <\/span>Fury)
Yohana ? UPH Architecture 2014
<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

An artwork can be ‘digested’ by humans by two methods, through his thinking (logics\/reasoning) as well as feelings (sensation). This ‘Pounding Fury’ is an artwork that applies those two methods in the making so the connoisseurs<\/span> could live and ‘digest’ the artworks through their thinking and feeling. In this artwork, the hanging element above that looks like a chain is a representation of angers, while the stick in the middle is the accumulation of unbearable rages and eventually stomping down. At the meeting between stick and the objects stabbed (the system), I made a tapered rod, to support the fact that rage is often identified with pointy things. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
