The Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) School of Design (SOD) received the honor of serving as host of the exhibition: ?How Did Architects Respond Immediately After 3\/11? held by The Japan Foundation. The event was held at the Exhibition Hall, Building B, UPH main campus, on February 16th<\/sup>-26th<\/sup> 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This exhibition was launched on Monday, March 16th<\/sup> 2015, by the General Director of The Japan Foundation Jakarta, Mr. Ogawa, and by Elva Kurniawan Wibowo, S.Sn., M.A., Dean of School of Design UPH. In his speech, Mr. Ogawa explained that the exhibition entitled ?How Did Architects Respond Immediately After 3\/11 (The Great East Japan Earthquake)? was initially launched to commemorate the four year anniversary of the disaster that impacted Tohoku, as well as to show citizens the various creative activities used by the Japanese architects responding the disaster. The exhibition was divided into 3 parts (First: Emergency Responses, Second: Temporary Housing, and Third: Reconstruction Projects) that presented ideas from architects around the world by using pictures, videos, models, and furniture that were in fact used in the disaster evacuation location process.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ogawa hoped that the visitors will be able to better understand the immense efforts of Tohoku citizens to recover from the devastation. In addition, they also wanted to inspire future architects as well as the general public through this exhibition. Also during the presentation, Ogawa offered his gratitude to UPH for helping his Foundation to hold this event.<\/span><\/p>\n

The series of Japan Foundation events also offered a Seminar & Workshop on March 23rd<\/sup> at building D, UPH, which was presented by Prof. Ryo Yamakazi, a founder and director of Studio-L. He is a professor at the Kyoto University of Art and Design, where he is also a member of the Department of Interior Design in the Faculty of Art and Design. He has published several projects, including Komyuniti Dezain (Community of Design) and Machi no Kofuku ron (Contented Communities).(fc\/an)
