Why does it happen? What is the impact of the objects? These are examples of questions that are critically asked by a designer in order to solve a problem. This issue was introduced to High School students in grades 10 and 11 who were participants in the Interior and Product Design workshop ?Touch, Feel, and Design?.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-235\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uph.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/images_news_2015_04_img_9307.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"185\" height=\"258\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">&nbsp;<span>Elya Kurniawan Wibowo<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">According to Elya Kurniawan Wibowo, S.Sn., M.A., Dean of School of Design, the workshop held on 10 April, 2015, aimed to introduce High School students to the uniqueness of the Design field, which in fact is in need of highly capable individuals to fill the demand for workers. One required skill is being able to observe an object and then create a new design for the product. Moreover, a design should be implemented so that a particular object can bring effectiveness to human activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">With that concept in mind, the UPH School of Design brought to the workshop a unique concept, one where students were challenged to be creative in designing a new product after observing an object as it is typically implemented. The instructor of this workshop, Ruben Haris Lukito, S.Sn., had all participants divide into groups of three persons. Their eyes were then covered and they were given an object for which they must use their sense of touch to observe and interpret. Subsequently, the object?s concept could be implemented through the design of a new product.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p> <br style=\"line-height: 115%;\" \/> <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Approximately 96 High School students were participated in this workshop, came from SMA Global Mandiri, SMA Atisa Dipamkara, and SMA Yakobus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Following is the testimony from the participant: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\"><\/span> <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span>?<span style=\"font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;\">I believe that this workshop benefits students who were already trained to develop their imaginations, create an artwork, and experiment with what is in their mind to be a design.
