Department of Art (DoA) UPH invited Jay Wijayanto, conductor of The Indonesia Choir (ITC) to give a vocal training at UPH. This activity is part of a DoA UPH program to improve the quality of its art activities units, particularly UPH choir.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“In the near future in July, UPH Choir will follow an international competition to Philipines. We want UPH team’s preparations to be better, so we give them a direct learning from successful people like this Mr Jay. His experience in leading The Indonesian Choir (TIC) I hope can be shared so as to inspire and motivate UPH students”, explained Boy Marpaung, Manager of the Department of Art, who organized this training.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Art activities are part of a holistic education process implemented in UPH. Through these activities, students can develop their God-given talents and use it to improve their quality and potential and be more ready to plunge into the professional world. DoA continuously improve its activities programs by cooperation with various parties, both from inside and outside of UPH.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“The art that we teach to students is not merely to produce works that can be enjoyed, but through the process in producing a work of art, students can learn good character, perseverance, consistency, respect and independence”, added Boy.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In this training, students were given vocal techniques and tips to perform well. Participants were directly invited to practice the theory taught and in a short time, a choral rendition of O Ina Ni Keke was performed well. This training was attended by about 50 participants and the majority were from UPH choir members. Aside from focusing on vocals, DoA UPH will also conduct programs for other units such as photography, theater and dance.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jay stated that to attract students to be involved in arts, art must be packaged and marketed. “I see enthusiasm in UPH. As an early start, it is pretty good. But the marketing of this art activity should be improved in order to attract more participants,” said Jay.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jay also shared some tips for UPH Choir team that will participate in the competition, which were to find a good benchmark, the techniques of great choir groups and to must have a good training method. To get the maximum result, strong effort and even sacrifice is greatly needed. Including the needs to be wise in dividing the time between training and studying, because the main task of the student is still to study.<\/span><\/p>\n
