UPH Faculty of Law?s Student Association visited the office of Governor of Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. This visit acted as a field study related to the field of law surrounding the city government?s (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) environment, specifically regarding the Licensing in the business environment in Jakarta area. The entourage consisting of 55 students was accompanied by their lecturers, Susi Susantijo and Dwi P. Nugraha.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The entourage was welcomed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ir. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, MM., along with several city government officials, at 10:30 in the Great Hall, Jakarta. On the occasion, the Governor explained the work program of the city government in the field of law. He emphasized the importance of law enforcement in building a city. In the capital city, the government regulation is complete, but the implementation is somehow problematic. For example, people who commit minor criminal offenses may not want to undergo punishment by paying fines. Whereas in abroad, such violations should undergo social punishment. This is due to the fact that our Acts still follow the rules of the Netherlands. Likewise, the rules for corruptors are still not enforced properly because there still exist foul plays in the world of prosecutors and judges. Related to that particular issue, the Governor reminded the students at UPH Faculty of Law to immediately enter the professions corresponding to their field as soon as they graduate and become idealistic law officers.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He also introduced a one stop service that was recently launched. “The implementation experienced a lot of frictions. In an effort of reformation, we strive to prioritize the functions of existing staffs. We will filter the functional staffs. Thus, the operating will be more efficient and the government will be able to provide the best service for the community,” said Basuki.<\/p>\n

Students were also given the opportunity to ask. Some students asked questions about the city government’s reform efforts in business licensing in Jakarta related to the plan of Asean Economic Community enactment and whether there are any preventive measures to overcome the parties who violate the rights of a business license.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Responding to the students? questions, the Governor said that preventive action has been carried out starting from the city government?s personnels. Evaluations and reformations are also carried out in various fields. “The principle is that government is a public servant, so people just need to come and express their needs, we are ready to serve,” said the Governor.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

According to Susi Susantijo, Director of UPH Faculty of Law, the event was an initiative of the students and the faculty gave its full support. “We strongly support students? activities that could increase insight and factual knowledge in the field of law, particularly in the area of Jakarta. I am grateful that the Governor is willing to accept our student visit and to have a dialogue with them,” explained Susi.<\/p>\n

At the end of the event, students were invited to do a tour around the City Hall and visit the government?s One Stop Service Center office. (rh)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
