UPH has always sought to maintain good relations among its alumni. For that, UPH Alumni Center held an event called ?Alumni Business Network? on October 3, 2014. <\/p>\n

UPH has always sought to maintain good relations among its alumni. For that, UPH Alumni Center held an event called ?Alumni Business Network? on October 3, 2014. The event was attended by 32 participants (alumni) and took place in Bebek Bengil, from 4.30 PM until 20.00 PM.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The purpose of this event is to promote unity among the alumni of UPH and also an opportunity to learn from Each Other. If it is possible for the future, some lecturers have to be invited as well, so they can teach not only from an academic perspective but also from their practical experiences that can be shared to the students because the business experiences of these alumni can be a very good case study. For now, UPH is encouraging alumni to make such event but for the future, I hope alumni can encourage themselves to held the events with our full support for them.? Said Budi Legowo as a Vice-Rector on External Cooperation and Business Development.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The ?Alumni Business Network? begin with a presentation from two inspiring alumni which are Kinsky Bunyamin, an alumni from the Department of Communication, 2004 (Founder of Koultoura Coffee) and Mellisa Saputra Winata, an alumni from the Department of Hospitality Management, 2001 (Co-Founder of Pancious & Nanny?s Pavillion). Both speakers brought the topic “How to Develop Your Business and Reach the Gen Y Market?” and the presentation was moderated by Ferry Irawan which is also an alumni of UPH from the Department of Communications, 2004.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kinsky Bunyamin used the opportunity to share her story in building Koultoura Coffee from ground up, the coffee shop is located on ??West Jakarta. When she was still a college student, Kinsky has already have an aspirations to create a place where people can gather and feel comfortable in that place. Kinsky, who has a love of coffee finally decided to make a coffee shop named Coffee Koultoura. The selection of the name “Koultoura” itself comes from the Greek word which can be translated as ?Culture?.<\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

West Jakarta was chosen to be the location of Koultoura Coffee because there is no coffee shop that also provides brunch menus in the area. Koultoura Coffee?s creative strategies to attract the Gen Y is the unique decoration and comfortable place where the decoration ideas emerged from the coffee shops in different countries that have been visited by Kinsky herself. Additionally, Koultoura Coffee has icons that are unique such as the Foxy character and Papa Bear. Social media is also a powerful weapon to attract customers to visit Koultoura Coffee.<\/span><\/div>\n

In running the business, Kinsky always apply the values ??imparted to her during her study at UPH. “When I enrolled at UPH, the lecturers not only taught me by theories, but also with character development. At UPH, our character were build and disciplined to become a leader. Similarly in Koultoura, I always tell my employees that in here, you should all be able to earn something more than a skill, your main purpose is become a person with a better character. I hope that after working for Koultoura, my employees can be a more successful even as bold as opening their own coffee shop. Then, I will be proud of myself, “explains Kinsky.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Melissa Saputra also share her success story of conducting business in the field of food and beverages. Melissa has been in love with culinary world ever since she entered SMK (Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan) focusing on culinary and finally decided to continue her education in STPPH (School of Hospitality and Tourism). She is very grateful for STPPH?s support to make her able to develop her talent when she was positioned a teaching assistant even though she is still a junior and attended many competitions where she won in each of the competitions.<\/span><\/p>\n

After finishing college, Melissa is getting bored with her work as an employee and decided to make her own business. “In 2007, I had the idea to open a pancake restaurant in Indonesia. Eventually, I quit my job and without further delay I partnered with a friend and opened a restaurant with pancakes as our specialty and called it Pancious, “said Melissa.<\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She never felt tired on running the business because it is her passion especially in terms of culinary. Melissa sold her share in Pancious and open a new restaurant along with his new partner which is called Nanny’s Pavillon.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to her, to be able to reach the market, especially Gen Y, a food and beverage business is not just selling the food, but also a unique concept but still balanced by the quality of service and food. Nanny’s Pavillon has a strong concept through an icon that is the characteristic of the restaurant and every branch of the restaurant has a different theme.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“It is a bit tricky to be able to reach the Gen Y. Gen Y can be easily influenced, because they want to know many things. But the difficulty, they switch brand easily. Which is why it is important to create a bonding with our customers, especially Gen Y, by making the event, inviting bloggers, as well as other marketing activities that can be directly touch the customer, “explained Melissa.<\/span><\/div>\n

Melissa also explained that doing business on your own requires a high leadership to motivate employees. She always stressed all of her employees to become a leader and to learn the importance of teamwork.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

After listening to both presentations, the alumni are given the opportunity to ask questions. One of the alumni from the Department of Management, 2005, Raymond, who just want to start a business in Food and Beverage field, asked about the challenges faced in running the food and beverage business owned by the two speakers. Both are running a business with a partner, explaining that the main difficulty is the unifying vision. Melissa added that doing business with a partner would make her able to develop a larger business, but she suggested the presence of legal clarity to protect the interests of both parties.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
