Universitas Pelita Harapan bekerjasama dengan Biola University dan Corban University menyelenggarakan International Christian Higher Education Conference yang berlangsung selama tiga hari, dari 5 November sampai 7 November 2013. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Universitas Pelita Harapan bekerjasama dengan Biola University dan Corban University menyelenggarakan International Christian Higher Education Conference yang berlangsung selama tiga hari, dari 5 November sampai 7 November 2013. Pada tanggal 5 November, diadakan upacara pembukaan yang mengambil tempat di Mahogany Ballroom, Aryaduta Karawaci.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Upacara pembukaan ini diisi dengan penyambutan dari Dr. (Hon.) Jonathan L. Parapak ? Rektor UPH, Dr. Sheldon Nord ? Presiden Corban University, dan Dr. Barry Corey ? Presiden Biola University dan Dr. (Hon.) James T. Riady ? Pendiri UPH. Selain itu, penampilan tarian-tarian tradisional Indonesia dari Kementerian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif Indonesia dan UPH Teachers College menghibur para peserta yang datang dari dalam dan luar negeri.<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n

Rektor UPH, Jonathan L. Parapak, berharap melalui konferensi ini media dan pendidikan dapat memberikan harapan serta dampak yang positif bagi para pelajar sehingga dapat menjadi ?generasi harapan? masa depan. Sementara itu, Presiden Corban University, Dr. Sheldon Nord menyampaikan pentingnya peran institusi pendidikan tinggi Kristen dalam melengkapi dan mempersiapkan pemimpin. Sambutan selanjutnya datang dari Presiden Biola University, Dr. Barry Corey yakin melalui konferensi ini kebutuhan peran iman Kristiani dalam pendidikan dan media. Selain itu, ia juga mengatakan konferensi ini adalah kesempatan yang berharga bagi para akademisi, dosen serta mahasiswa, baik dari Asia Tenggara maupun Amerika, melalui pertukaran ide, inspirasi serta pengalaman dalam suatu pembahasan yang kolaboratif. Setelah sambutan dari presiden dan rektor ketiga universitas penyelenggara ICHEC, sambutan selanjutnya datang dari Pendiri UPH, James Riady.<\/span><\/div>\n

James Riady membuka pidato dengan menyampaikan rasa terima kasihnya kepada panitia untuk penyelanggaran konferensi internasional ini. Menurutnya, topik konferensi yaitu ?Faith, Learning, and the Media of Hope? merupakan topik yang sangat penting namun di saat yang sama juga sangat luas. Ia menambahkan bahwa media telah mengalami perubahan yang cukup signifikan dan berusaha untuk menyesuaikan dengan budaya yang ada.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tidak dipungkiri lagi media akan memiliki peran penting, apalagi dengan meningkatnya akses media tidak hanya melalui TV namun juga perangkat-perangkat lainnya seperti smartphone<\/i>.  Karena itu, James menegaskan pentingnya peranan gereja dalam membina dan membentuk jemaat di dalam iman Kristen sehingga dapat menerapkan nilai-nilai keimanannya melalui profesi masing-masing khususnya mereka yang berprofesi di dunia media. <\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n

Lebih lanjut, James mengatakan bahwa dalam dunia pendidikan, Universitas Pelita Harapan telah melewati tiga fase dalam perannya di tengah masyarakat. Pertama, berkontribusi dalam pendidikan yang komprehensif. Kedua berkontribusi dalam dunia penelitian dan ketiga, berkontribusi dalam perubahan hidup yang berdampak di tengah-tengah masyarakat. Untuk itu, UPH mengintegrasikan iman dalam setiap pembelajaran yang diberikan. Terkait hal tersebut, ia menekankan pentingnya liberal arts <\/i>dan ilmu-ilmu sosial. ?Di sekolah kami, para guru-guru memiliki peran penting untuk mendidik para pelajar sejak dini agar mereka memiliki sudut pandang Kristiani,? tutup James. Acara dilanjutkan dengan tari tradisional berbagai daerah dari mahasiswa UPH Teachers College.
