UPH recently took part in the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) moot court competition held on 8-11 November, 2013 by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Indonesian Society of International Law (ISIL). <\/p>\n

UPH recently took part in the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) moot court competition held on 8-11 November, 2013 by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Indonesian Society of International Law (ISIL). The sixteen participating universities came from different parts of Indonesia, varying from Bandung (Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan) to Makassar (Universitas Hasanuddin) and each sent forth a team of three members. <\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
This year, UPH?s team comprised of three first-semester students from the Faculty of Law: Erick Derian, Nadya Mulya and Sekar Djolanda. Coached by Ms. Jamie Williams, the team remarkably emerged as the runner-up of the competition and brought home two additional awards: Best Written Memorial<\/i> and 2nd<\/sup> Best Oralist, <\/i>achieved by Nadya Mulya. <\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Such achievements were the result of hard work and commitment exerted by the team, who thoroughly worked on the case concerning crimes during an armed conflict brought before the International Criminal Court for a total of two months, from the period of memorial writing to pleading simulations as preparation for the oral rounds. Nevertheless, it is ultimately God?s blessing that despite the highly competitive atmosphere present in this year?s IHL moot, UPH has once again managed to mark its name as a noteworthy participant in moot court competitions.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

To be very honest, I was at first hesitant about entering the Law Faculty because law was not my first choice of major. However, through this competition I discovered that I may in fact like it a lot. My understanding of international law broadened with the help of mooting, as every argument I throw in the competition built up my knowledge and confidence. Overall, the competition was a fun experience and I am glad I decided to join. I had nothing to lose, but gained so much.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

As<\/span> a freshman, I decided to participate in the competition in hopes of gaining new experience and knowledge on law outside of classrooms. However, I feel that I have gained so much more. Participating in the IHL moot has not only taught us the substance concerning the law or skills on advocacy and time management, but also the value of commitment and hard work. The past two months may have been challenging, but knowing that our hard work has paid off made it all worthwhile. Our biggest gratitude also goes out to our coach and seniors who have given so much assistance and support to us.<\/span><\/div>\n

I am so grateful I could be part of the IHL team this year. Our achievement is because of God?s blessing and hard work of every team member. As freshmen students who were really inexperienced at this competition, I do not deny, it was really tough. We had to read so many books and journals but in the end we got the skills that we could not learn in class. Thank you to our coach, Ms. Jamie Williams, our seniors Jevon, Roselyn, Jonathan, UPH?s Johannes Oentoro Library and last but not least, ILMCC who gave us the opportunity to join the IHL competition.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
