Rabu, 10 April 2013, UPH mengadakan seminar yang bertajuk ?The Media Industry and Students of the 21st<\/sup> Century? (Industri Media dan Pelajar di Abad 21). Seminar ini menampilkan pembicara Sachin Gopalan, CEO dari BeritaSatu media dan dimoderasi oleh John Riady.<\/span><\/p>\n

Seminar dibuka dengan penjelasan akan keadaan media sekarang ini. Sachin menjelaskan, karena cepatnya perkembangan teknologi, orang-orang menjadi memiliki beberapa kebiasaan seperti menuntut agar keinginan mereka segera terpenuhi, konektivitas yang lebih cepat serta individualisme di mana mereka ingin terlihat berbeda. Melihat kebiasaan ini, media pun juga mulai menyesuaikan keinginan tersebut. Sachin menambahkan, BeritaSatu pun juga menyesuaikan berita-beritanya dengan kebiasaan yang sudah terbentuk, seperti berita yang dipublikasikan melalui media digital, berita yang tercepat dan terakurat serta berita yang berbeda dari media lainnya.<\/span><\/p>\n

Perkembangan digital tidak hanya membawa perubahan, namun juga kekhawatiran sekelompok orang akan hilangnya media cetak. Sachin menyangkal hal tersebut, karena menurutnya, media cetak akan selalu beradaptasi sehingga tidak akan hilang sebagai salah satu media massa yang dibutuhkan masyarakat. Ia mencontohkan cara adaptasi yang dilakukan BeritaSatu media grup adalah dengan tidak menyajikan sudut pandang yang sama dengan media-media cetak lainnya, melainkan menyajikan berita yang menggunakan sudut pandang yang berangkat dari analisa tentang kemungkinan yang akan terjadi atau prediksi ke depan dari suatu berita tersebut.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

 \"\"<\/td>\nSeminar diakhiri dengan sesi pertanyaan di mana banyak mahasiswa bersemangat menanyakan fenomena yang terjadi di media. Moderator John Riady terpaksa harus mengambil beberapa pertanyaan karena keterbatasan waktu. Setelah sesi pertanyaan selesai, Sachin memberikan hadiah buku ?Eyewitness? yang berisi kumpulan foto jurnalis Jakarta Globe, kepada mahasiswa yang memberikan pertanyaan bagus dan kritis.
