The last regular meeting of BK-PTKI in 2012 was held at UPH on November 22-23, 2012. Previously, UPH also hosted the meeting in April. This time the topic of the meeting was the implementation of UU no. 12 year 2012 and issues related to tax problems and how it impacts the universities. Some of the speakers were Prof. DR Johannes Gunawan, SH., LLM., Dr. Jamin Ginting ? the Head of LKBH UPH, Elita Tedja ? Senior Partner Prime Tax Consultant and Ferni, S.IP., M.SI. ? The Head of Public Relations section in DJP Banten.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting was intended for Rectors or the Head of Universities and the Head of Foundation, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Finance and Administration, and the treasurer of the Foundation. The representatives of 20 Christian universities attended the seminar.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

On the second day, the participant was given the explanation of tax aspects for university, including which one is the tax object and which one is not, and the tax issues happened around the universities. “This topic is very important especially for the foundation and university management as well as an individual as tax object. Therefore it is important to have a good accounting journal, it will reflect our business. It is better if the journal is audited, so that it is transparent and accountable,” said Ferliana Suminto, the treasurer of BK-PTKI at the beginning of the second day’s seminar.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

From this meeting, there were several inputs that would be delegated to the Directorate General of Taxes. Some of them were about foundation endowment and tax regulation related to educational facilities in university, such as hospital established for Medical School. Also socialized was the new regulation regarding non-taxable income that came with a raise. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Regarding the tax issues, Parapak asked the Directorate General of Taxes to support the private universities, including in tax regulations. “Around 70 percent of our society go to private schools,” said Parapak. The same goes to research grant. If it is possible, make it non-taxable. It is because research is very important to increase the quality of private education. He also mentioned the facilities provided by universities, such as teaching hospital, farm, and others, that might seem commercial but it is in fact not. “Those institutions must be supported or subsidized,” told Parapak in the end of the meeting.
