For the first time, the competition was themed Building ERBC. &#8220;This is the first competition inIndonesia,&#8221; said Wiryanto Dewobroto, one of the judges. The competition itself was the third one held by UPH, the previous two were for bridge construction while this one was for building construction. This related to Indonesia&#8217;s building that was earthquake prone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">According to Wiryanto, the aim of the competition was to give understanding on how an earthquake resistant building works. &#8220;Inside the claas, they only learn the theory. To undestand further they need to practice. In this competition, the students learn how to make assumptions, plan, choose a model, and make construction. This is how the learning process is done,&#8221; he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">UPH civil engineering studies in general not only guided the students to master the theory but also the actual practice. Therefore, we are focused on research and innovation. In all competitions, students created innovations. While the research is done through practicum and experimental data. &#8220;Here, students are motivated to innovate,&#8221; told Wiryanto <\/span><span><span>who is a lecturer in<\/span><\/span><span><span> <\/span><\/span><span><span>civil<\/span><\/span><span><span> <\/span><\/span><span><span>engineering UPH<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: black;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">&#8220;I really appreciate all students who join the competition. There is always progress in curiosity. Through this competition, students can set their benchmark and interact with each other, share information, as well support each other,&#8221; he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">For this competition, the UPH committee used shaking table as prober that was designed specifically by UPH students.
