U<\/strong><\/span>PH and The Center of Education and Training, Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed MoU on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 as the MTIC (Masters of Law in Trade, Investment, and Competition Law & Policy) program was launched at UPH Graduate School, Jakarta. MTIC Program is supported by Swiss governement through Swiss <\/i>State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in cooperation with World Trade Institute (WTI), Univesity of Bern.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Accroding to Head of Center of Education and Training, Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/span> Hazairin Pohan, the program was very important in facing economic liberalization. In terms of law competition, economic policy and predispute would be confronted in the future.Therefore, he was concerned to train the Indonesia?s diplomats in order to be prepared to face the issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Indonesia?s human resources were not ready for the international challenge. It was important to have a good educational program in trade, investment, and competition.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

?Our target is to send our young diplomats to be educated and be experts in trade law and law competition so that they will be able to have good diplomatic skills in inetrnational trade,? he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cooperation with UPH was the first one made by Pusdiklat. ?Usually the Ministry would send their diplomats to study abroad. Every year, there will approximately be 200 diplomats sent abroad. With this program, the diplomats who are in domestic duty will e able to join the program. They will still be able to pursue their doctoral degree abroad as the program use international curriculum aviliated with foreign institutions,? told Hazairin.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

In terms of the quality of local education, Hazairin was optimistic that it was as good as overseas. The same thing was mentioned by the Head of UPH Master of Law Program Henry Soelistiyo Budi as the program was directly designed in cooperation with Bern University who own the study center at World Trade Institute as it was the center of the related issue. As other universitites might provide partial program of international trade issue, UPH MTIC would provide a complete program. All issues in WTO would be available in WTI studies.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

MTIC provides comprehensive curriculum accomplished in nine months and it also provides flexible schedule. Thus, it is the perfect program for practitioners, consultants, trade policy makers. Qualified lecturers include experts from WTI, John Hopkins University, National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, Universitas Pelita Harapan, and Universitas Indonesia. (rh)
