According to United Nations Development Program (UNDP) data, Human Development Index (HDI) of Indonesia in 2010 is 0.734. <\/p>\n

According to United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Indonesia<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>?s Human Development Index (HDI) in 2010 is 0.734. This number shows that our country is ranked 111th out of 179 countries, with a level of human development is only in the medium level. <\/p>\n

\"images\/jsnews\/taufiq“Right now is a ?brain to brain competition? era. People are no longer competing physically, but competing in ideas and innovations. Indonesia’s HDI position is very much unfortunate, it causes our country to be left out from the international arena,” said Taufiq Pasiak, chairman of the Indonesian Neuroscience Club at a seminar “Revealing the Secrets to Improve Intelligence Brain”, Monday (29\/03) at St. Moritz Grand Ballroom. <\/p>\n

In his speech, Taufiq also stressed on the fact that human brain is a tremendous ?mine?. “Every human being can optimize his\/her brain function, to be highly competitive. Our brain is a living brain. There have been wrong paradigms saying that our brain structure can?t be changed at all. While actually, once you change your brain, you change your life!” he said again. <\/p>\n

Optimizing the brain function must be done since babies are in the mothers? womb. “Infant?s brain cells are as many as 100 billion, and they are growing rapidly. Therefore, pregnant women should take great care to their babies? health and nutrition since in the womb. Moreover, optimizing babies? brain should also be done by exclusively breastfeeding them for six months, and let children socialize with the environment,” said Fasli Djalal, Vice of Indonesian Education Minister, who was also a keynote speaker. <\/p>\n

              Taufiq Pasiak<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Cognitively smart would not be enough. Taufiq explained that human brains have gone through three stages of development. The first stage is a motoric stage, in which humans can start moving the motoric cells of the body. The second stage is a rational and analytical thinking, in which we know there were leading scientists ever since the 17th century. “And yet, there are still problems everywhere. There must have been a part(s) of human brains that hasn?t been functioning well, that is the spiritual aspect. This aspect should be the highest among the cognitive and emotional, as it can bring a person to understanding the meaning of life,” he continued.

Another keynote speaker at the seminar ? as a cooperation between Indonesian Ministry of Health and Universitas Pelita Harapan ? was the expert of Midico<\/em> Legal, Minister of Health, Faiq Bahfen. He added, “The essence of intelligence is the ability to predict the future. We, from the government, are also making long-term plans until 2025 in order to create intelligent Indonesians who can be play roles in an international level, and thus making us a great nation.” <\/p>\n

The plans are certainly not only the responsibility of Ministry of Education and Health, but there must be good cooperation with academicians and practitioners as well.<\/p>\n

“All components of the nation from various fields must work together to create excellent human beings. Completed researches should be applied,” said Faiq who was representing the Minister of Health, Endang R. Sedyaningsih. He continued, “If all this time we’ve been empowered by the brains, it is now the time to empower our brains.”<\/p>\n
