Parapak menyatakan perkembangan ICT telah berperan besar dalam kesejahteraan ekonomi, peningkatan kualitas pendidikan dan pernbaikan proses demokrasi. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

?ICT (Information Communication Technology) merupakan berkat dari Tuhan untuk kehidupan holistik,? kata Jonathan L. Parapak di hadapan tamu terhormat, senat akademik UPH dan jurnalis di MYC UPH pada hari Rabu, 29 Mei 2008.<\/p>\n

Hari itu, ia diberikan asisten professor terhormat di bidang teknik oleh Queensland University of Technology. Menyambut gelar barunya, Parapak menyatakan perkembangan ICT telah berperan besar dalam kesejahteraan ekonomi, peningkatan kualitas pendidikan dan pernbaikan proses demokrasi.<\/p>\n

Presiden Queensland University of Technology (QUT), David Buissonn menyatakan komitmen tinggi Parapak terhadap pendidikan, jasa serta kepercayaannya membuat ia menjadi model panutan untuk seorang pendidik yang baik. Karena itulah, universitas negeri terbesar di Australia ini menganugerahkan gelar professor terhormat. Ia juga menambahkan Parapak sering dimintai nasihat dalam pengembangan studi teknik di QUT.<\/p>\n

Parapak, yang merupakan perintis dari kabel komunikasi bawah laut Indonesia-Australia, menjelaskan nasihat tersebut dapat diberikan karena pengalamannya sebagai seorang insinyur. Ia menyatakan pengalaman tersebut didapatkan lebih pada saat di lapangan, bukan di laboratorium.<\/p>\n

?Jadi mereka meminta pengalaman saya di lapangan,? katanya di konferensi pers yang berlangsung selama 15 menit.<\/p>\n

UPH dan QUT telah menjalin hubungan kerjasama yang baik dalam pertukaran dosen dan mahasiswa, beasiswa dan dual degree. Boissing memastikan bahwa kerjasama ini akan memperkuat kualitas kedua universitas dalam jangka panjang.<\/p>\n

Pada akhir pidatonya, Parapak memperingati dampak negatif dari penggunaan ICT. Internet dan penyiaran sekarang mudah digunakan untuk menyebarkan nilai-nilai yang merusak, misalnya pornografi, kekerasan dan terorisme. Ia mengingatkan para peserta untuk berhati-hati dan memastikan ICT tidak digunakan untuk menghancurkan kehidupan.<\/p>\n
