Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) presented various activities in the agenda for one more event program Techno Fair 2009 with the theme of “Revealing Our Technology”.

This event was held for five continuous days from February 23rd to 27th 2009 by The Students Executive Board of UPH (BEM UPH) in cooperation with Faculty of Informatics’ Student’s Association. Various events such as Dota competition, Talkshow about Blogging, Technology focused seminars, and Technology exhibitions had been packed into an attractive and inviting event, in order to present today’s world of technology to the students.

The Dota competition was held on Tuesday, February 24th 2009 at the same time as a Talkshow which discussed about the erupting trend of blogging with Raditya Dika, a talented young writer who began his writing career by blogging. Raditya had pointed out that through blogging on Facebook, Friendster, or other media, he could eventually open some network with people he had not even met before. This indicates that technology is not only valuable in the world of research, but also affects the expansion of social networks with other people.

The Dota competition was attended by 120 participans all of whom were offered a chance at a prize of almost 4 million Rupiahs. The prize also included the grand prize of a VGA card and a trophy from Digital Alliance.

Techno Fair 2009 also included a seminar entitled ?The Next Indonesian Technology? which invited the Head of IPTEK Nuclear Dissemination Center, Dr. Sahril DIC. M. Eng. This seminar discussed how rapid Indonesia?s technology development would be in the next era. Alongside the seminar, there was a technology exhibition as a product of cooperation with governmental organizations such as LAPAN (Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional) and IGOS ( Indonesia?s Go Open Source).

According to the head of the committee of the event, Agnes Susanto, the exhibition and all the technology related programs of the event were held in order to build an awareness in the students, particularly UPH?s students, about the importance of technology development in Indonesia. ?Indonesia has the potential but they are not developed well enough,? she had stated.

Agnes also added that similar events have to be held regularly so that the students could get as much information as they can gather about the rapidly developing technology.
