UPH?s Visual Communication Design Students Become Champions in Deep Indonesia 2009

Visual Communication Design students from Faculty of Design and Planning ? Universitas Pelita Harapan (FDTP-UPH) for the second time became champions in Deep Indonesia poster design competition.

Karawaci, 14/04/09 ? Visual Communication Design students from Faculty of Design and Planning ? Universitas Pelita Harapan (FDTP-UPH) for the second time became champions in Deep Indonesia poster design competition. Deep Indonesia, having been held since 2008, is an international exhibition that exposes the development of Indonesia?s sea tourism and sport.

Two Visual Communication Design students of the year 2006, Yuvens Winatra and Nikko Purnama Lukman had succeeded to become the third winner and the second aspiring winner in this year competition ? Deep Indonesia 2009. Meanwhile last year, another two Visual Communication Design students year 2005, Fernand Sulaiman and Julius Tomo Ishak also became the first and third winner in the same competition.

With the theme of ?Harmony between Human and Coral Reef?, the competition which was a product of the cooperation between Coremap, Forum Design Grafis Indonesia (FDGI), PT. Surya Palacejaya, and Creative Networking, was aimed to increase public awareness to conserve the environment, especially sea environment and its resources. Hundreds of high school and university students from all over Indonesia participated in the competition. Those who succeeded to become the best 20 finalist had been given the opportunity to display their posters in Jakarta Convention Center on March 27th to 29th, 2009.

Among the Visual Communication Design students year 2006 and 2007 who participated in the competition, four of them succeeded to become the best 20 finalist. In addition to Yuvens? and Nikko?s poster designs, Salsa Soetjoadi?s and Regina Christine Lengkong?s designs were also displayed in the exhibition.

Visual Communication Design?s head of department, Yongky Savanayong, enthusiastically welcome this competition. He stated that the competition is important to increase students? awareness to preserve the nature, especially the preservation of coral reefs. . ?There are so many things that we can do. This competition, for instance; the most important thing is about increasing students? awareness and participation, not about who wins,? he said.
