Astrid Ellena Crowned as Miss UPH Scholar 2009

After a long phase of judgement, Astrid Ellena, an International Relations student, was crowned as Miss UPH Scholar 2009.

One of the judges, Nursari Dewi Lugito said, ?Astrid has fulfilled the criteria to be crowned as Miss UPH because she gave the most emphatic answers that reflect her maturity, honesty, sincerity, self-control, knowledge, and Godly character.

?Director of PT Mustika Ratu TBk, Arman S. Tjitrosoebono, one of the judges, hopes that the winner of Miss UPH scholar will become the ambassador of UPH to enrich relations with other universities and introduces UPH to prospective high school students.

He added, ?The winner should become a role model and motivator for students in developing positive attitude in many fields.?

During the April 29th Grand Final, Astrid Ellena also got the honor to be Miss Photogenic who has captured 22,37% of the SMS polling.

While, Miss Favorite, Patricia Henrietta Eman, who is also an International Relations student was chosen based on the majority votes from the other finalists.

This contest also endorses the Stay Away Campaign which promotes attitude against narcotics, cigarette, and free sex. It will be led by the winner of Miss UPH Scholar.

The purpose of this contest is to encourage UPH female students to not only accentuate their beauty but also their behavior and intelligence, as was stated by Ferliana Suminto, the Vice President of UPH Finance and Administration.

?This contest will encourage the students to be grateful for their conditions, and to kindle their character to meet UPH?s vision: True Knowledge, Faith in God, and Godly Character,?? she said.

The contest was held by the Student Executive Board (BEM UPH). This was the second time for Universitas Pelita Harapan to host such intellectual and beauty contest.
