It took a month for these students to prepare for this performance. ?At the beginning, the event?s concept was just dance performance. But as it developed, we changed this Malin Kundang story into dance and drama performance,? said Johannes Tong, Head of UPH?s Department of Art.
Since it started a year ago, UPH?s Department of Art had performed a lot of artworks. Students Activity Unit of Saman Dance had once shone in a national competition, and now it is about to perform for an international competition in Poland?s Folklore Festival.
?We wanted to show that Indonesia?s culture is abundant. Since the very beginning, UPH?s Department of Art has been concerned to Indonesia?s culture. I want the performers to understand that to accomplish good purposes there are processes. Art reflects sufferings and sufferings in preparing for performances is the process. Hopefully this performance will not only bring moral messages to the audiences, but for the performers as well,? Tong said.
