Jakarta (4 / 11), Some 70 model studies and more than 50 design images of UPH architecture student, exhibited at East Mall, Grand Indonesia second floor. “For the first time UPH held Architecture Student’s Exhibition dedicated to the public and held outside the campus,” said Susinety Prakoso, Chairman of UPH Department of Architecture, at the opening of the exhibition.

The field of architecture in Indonesia is increasingly growing. Architecture began to enter into the discourse of Jakarta everyday society, and especially Indonesia. Many people start to not see architecture as a mere building but as something that has social meaning, culture, and politics. This understanding is closely with the extent to which architecture can be appreciated by a wider audience and therefore the architecture educational institutions have an important role.

“Architecture educational institutions must be sensitive and able to formulate an architectural education that is right in context and not simply follow what the trend,” adds Susi.

The statement is emphasized by the chairman of the Architects Association of Indonesia (Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia ? IAI) Jakarta, Ahmad Djuara. “I hope that the graduates of architecture can become a professional in his field.” He also added that education at UPH architecture differs from what the other campuses. “The combination of academic faculty and professional are good enough, it can be seen from the work of students who exhibited here were more expressive,” he added.

Glenn Hartanto, lecturer at UPH Department of Architecture, as well as the exhibition curator, hopes the exhibition will attract and benefit the visitors. “Feel the implied story in a series of works on display as well as shapes that exposed,” he said.

According to Glenn, this exhibition is a representation of the curriculum of UPH Architecture majors. Our educational system can be seen from the works of students from semester 1 to semester 8 from various batches. These works come from a variety of design courses such as Basic Design Studio, Architecture Design Studio 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Several projects of recent Studio course became one of the exhibition materials.

The event was held in partnership with the Jakarta Architecture Triennale 2009 committee which also opened on Wednesday (04 / 11). For 18 days this event is open to public. (Rosse/CynR)
