Who said that applying manners at the dinner table is hard? The evidence is about 30 students from SMK 7 Kelapa Dua Tangerang District are enthusiastic to follow Table Manner events in UPH, Monday (23/11). “It?s really tense, but fun. We were taught how to eat, how to hold a napkin, and the introduction of cutleries which are very numerous,” said Laura Johana and Devianty Vivin Anistia, students from class of X APH 1. Table Manner is included in the series of Hotel Fair events which is held by the Department of Hospitality student, Pelita Harapan Tourism School (STPPH).

The material taught was really interesting, ranging from how to eat, how to sit, procedures, until the knowledge of how to behave at the dinner table. “Although there is still much wrong at the beginning, but finally they have started the right way of eating. This is a way of introduction to the general public about the world of hospitality.” said Jeansisca Kesuma, Department of Hospitality Management student batch 2006, as the instructor. Although the event was conducted by students, the series of events featured are serious. Visitors can enjoy the juggling attraction, wine testing, food carving, and exhibition.

According to Komariah, SMK 7 French teacher, the event was very useful to let the students know the etiquette of eating. “It would be nice if a bit of French elements included in the menu. Etiquette comes from France, so at least they know the French terms for an appetizer, main, and dessert.” she added. (sar/cyn)
