Lippo Village (4/12) – Pelita Harapan University and Tourism School will conduct the sixteenth commencement on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at UPH Grand Chapel. On that occasion, UPH will present President of Calvin College (Michigan, United States), Gaylen Byker to give a speech to the graduates.
He will talk about the role of Christian university education and how it can be used in the rest of their lives. “How they use the knowledge, skills, and good attitudes that they have acquired at UPH so they can be a successful agent of renewal and transformation,” said Gaylen.
He believes that education obtained by UPH students would bring a significant difference. “The emphasis on character and self-excellence is an important which are embedded in UPH students. I’m sure they will become role models who will bring great impact to the community,” says professor of International Law and Finance.
Graduated from UPH does not mean struggle of the students are finished, it was the beginning of the adventure of their lives, according to the meaning of the word ‘commencement’ itself. “After graduation, they will go to the outside world to serve. This life is a vocational to serve. What they do should be for the glory of God,” said UPH President Sheldon C. Nord.

Sheldon also added that it is an honor for UPH that Gaylen Byker will be the speaker at the graduation ceremony tomorrow. “We are very proud of his arrival. Calvin College is a Christian university that has a good reputation in the US. Its own president who comes here to share his vision of a Christian university,” said Sheldon.
The sixteenth commencement ceremony will be in two stages. The first stage is on 08.30-11.30 and the second stage at 13.00-16.00. (cyn)
