The 16th UPH Commencement

Lippo Village (5/12) ? University and Tourism School of Pelita Harapan conducted a commencement for 762 graduates today.


UPH Rector Jonathan L. Parapak inaugurates the best graduates of undergraduates, Elisabeth, Faculty of Education, majoring in English Education with a GPA of 3.93.

Lippo Village (5/12) ? University and Tourism School of Pelita Harapan conducted a commencement for 762 graduates today. In this event, there are Kopertis Region III Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Haryoto Kusnoputranto and a special guest, President of Calvin College (Michigan, United States), Gaylen Byker to give a speech to the graduates.

In his speech to the graduates, Kopertis Region III Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Haryoto Kusnoputranto warned the university for not only equip graduates with science, but should be complemented with an attitude and good character. “The current condition requires the ability to utilize the technology and information to improve the welfare of society. Hence the strategy of the university must take advantage of information technology to improve learning quality and efficiency of education,” he said.

He also stressed that universities should be healthy, to be able to produce quality graduates.

To the graduates, Gaylen Byker, convey the important role of Christian university education and how it can be applied. “Knowledge, skills and attitudes that have been acquired both during the study in UPH should be used as good as possible in order to bring renewal and transformation,” said Byker.

images/jsnews/wisuda%206.jpgIn line with the Kopertis message, Byker said that the education obtained by UPH students will bring a significant difference. “The emphasis on self-excellence and character are the important things that embedded in UPH students. I’m sure the graduates will be role models who will bring great impact to the community,” says the professor of International Law and Finance.

While UPH President, Sheldon C. Nord reminded the graduates to continue to fight and serve. “Graduated from UPH does not mean the struggle of the students are finished, it was the beginning of the adventure of their lives. After graduation, they will go to the outside world to serve. This life is a vocation. What they do should be for the glory of God,” he said.

UPH was founded in 1994, currently has graduated nearly 10,000 graduates. According to Maria Natalia Satyarti Aryani, Manager of UPH CDAC, in general the companies that recruit UPH graduates are quite satisfied with the quality of UPH alumni. From a survey conducted in November 2009 to 38 companies that recruit UPH graduates, 87% expressed interest in recruiting because generally the graduates mastered the work technical, responsible, and has good work ethic.

The sixteenth commencement ceremony took place in two stages. The first stage was on 08.30-11.30 and the second stage was on 13.00-16.00. (ros/cyn)
