Dr. Bruce Narramore, a psychologist, a President of Narramore Foundation, and also an author from America, had a chance to visit UPH and speak at the seminar called ?The Challenges Faced by Christian Counselors?, Thursday (28/1). In this seminar which was done in English, Bruce emphasized the importance of being a psychologist based on Christian faith. ?All of us, be it kids or adults, have struggles in life. Psychologists with Christian faith are a big help for Christians in understanding and fulfilling their spiritual needs, just like understanding them emotionally and socially,? said Bruce. The seminar, held in Multipurpose Room MYC, was attended by a lot of people from academic fields and church members. In the seminar, participants were given explanations about challenges faced by Christian psychologists, in educational, church, or public life. Generally, Christian psychologists still consider that psychology and Christian faith are two different things that can not be put together. However, Bruce doesn?t have the same opinion on this. Responding to the argument about Christian psychologists who separate psychology and Christian faith in educational institutions, Bruce confirmed that psychology is similar to a nanny whose job is to care for children. As parents? substitutes, it is psychologists? jobs to motivate children?s life, give an understanding that they are loved and special, as well as to form their characters. Therefore, being psychologists with accordance to their Christian faith, would mean greater opportunities in leading children or college students towards characters of those in Christian faith as well. Furthermore, Bruce added that good educational institution is the one with instructors who are not only excellent in teaching and transferring knowledge, but also able to give good examples to students both emotionally and spiritually.
