Communication Science Program, Faculty of Social and Political Science of University of Pelita Harapan conducted community services at Teluk Naga Village on Monday (1/3). UPH staff gave radio introduction and training to narrow the digital knowledge gap for the children at the village.
?The village has already had a community radio, so we only acted as facilitator,? explained Sigit Pamungkas, the person in charge of the community services and also the Head of Laboratory of TV and Radio at the university.
The activity which was attended by senior high school students also served as a selection for participants who are talented and interested in radio announcing. At the end of the day, 12 out of 28 students were selected. The chosen ones will visit UPH radio laboratory today (4/3) to operate the studio and act as real radio announcers. The selected three will then join Radio Announcing Competition, a competition held as a part of the annual Communication Avenue organized by Communication Sciences Program?s Student Council.
Such training is expected to give more knowledge and insight about digital communication to children at Teluk Naga Village, who showed interests to the materials told Sigit, Dessy Kania, Agustin Diana, Julia, and Uria.
?Few of the 28 participants were still hesitating, but most of them gave good response. We would initially select 10 people, but due to their enthusiasm, we took 12 people,? said Sigit.
This radio training is the third activity conducted by Communication Science Program. There were two other activities in 2009, which were basic video production with limited equipment and technique and video profile production of Teluk Naga Village.
Although there has been no follow up to the former activities, it is expected that such community services would become a routine activity for Communication Science Program. (yun)
