Guest Lecture with Peter Hedley

Peter Hedley, B.Arch (Hons), Dip.UrbStud, Dip.Ed, M.Sc from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) delivered a lecture for Interior Design students who enroll for dual degree program.

Peter Hedley, B.Arch (Hons), Dip.UrbStud, Dip.Ed, M.Sc from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) visited University of Pelita Harapan for seven days (February 6-13) and delivered a lecture for Interior Design students who enroll for dual degree program. The lecture for students from class 2008 and 2009 received a good response.

?The students gave positive feedback for that class,? said Elya Kurniawan Wibowo, S.Sn., M.A., Dipl.Multimedia, the Head of Interior Design Program.

The lecture on Studio Studies is aimed to give strong basic theory and concept for second semester students and instructions on the application of the theory for fourth semester students.

?For class 2009, the lecture includes Ergonomic, Sustainability, and Concept of Space, while class 2008 students are given a workshop on Commercial Space,? explained Elya.

Elya admitted that Peter gave a positive evaluation on the skills of UPH students during the class. Their ideas are brilliant and creative, but they are not disciplined enough with time management and do not have the initiative to realize their ideas before approval was given. He regreted the fact of students who cannot join the classes in QUT for two years because of funding.

UPH and QUT signed an MOU in 2005 and took effect in 2007. Today, several students for class of  2007 are having their classes at QUT.

?So far they cope well with the teaching process. The most probable problems are culture shock and scientific writing, where they are weak in theory criticism and written argument,? said Elya. (yun)
