Two debate teams of UPH Business School have successfully got the 2nd Runner Up position after Binus and London School, in ?Widyatama Debate Competition IV? event held at Universitas Widyatama Bandung, on February 22-24, 2010. The teams which consisted of students from class of 2008 were: Caroline (leader), Renita Widjaja (member) and Thea Magdalena (member); Novie Anggraini Boenawan (leader), Amanda Setiono (member) and Candola (member).

In this competition, students were encouraged to be able to verbally express their opinions. With the supervision from their lecturers Yohana F. Cahya Palupi, M.Sp., M.Si. and Feriadi D. Pongtuluran, SE., MM. these two teams managed to compete with the other teams, that have been champions in similar competitions. ?We are relatively new in this competition, because almost all of the competitors were 6th and 7th semester students, while we are all 4th semester students,? revealed Novie.

Although the teams only got the 2nd runner up position, this achievement has made the students very proud, because they only had 7 days before the D day to prepare themselves due to a late notification. ?At first we were pessimistic to even get to the final round, because our teams? selection was done seven days before the competition,? said Novie. ?Besides, we just got HRM ? Human Resource Management ? subject this semester,? Novie added via telephone.

A tight competition schedule (morning to afternoon) didn?t lessen UPH teams? spirit to keep on practicing at any possible chances. Instead of using the break time to get some rests, the teams deepened the material and prepared arguments. Thus, UPH teams were considered the best ones in terms of mastering debate materials. Novie and her friends admitted that by joining this HRM debate competition, they found it easy to do their HRM mid-test at the moment. (yun)
