“The awareness of sports can start from campus. There are so many college athletes who wish to participate in competitions. We should also show to the world that Indonesian students are not only good in demonstrations, but also good in sports,” said Rita Subowo, chairwoman of KOI. Proper facilities and infrastructures have resulted on UPH being the first university chosen by KOI to realize this dream.
According to Rita, Indonesian youths have very little interest on sports. While actually, young generations are those who can raise sportsmanship values and healthy way of living. Therefore, it is essential for
On the other hand, this cooperation is of big importance as a part of holistic education?s implementation at UPH. “Holistic education is not merely limited to intellectual educations, but also covers a lot of things, such as physical education, sports, arts, and spiritual aspects,” said UPH Rector ? Jonathan Parapak. As a concrete step, UPH is committed to participate and encourage the spirit of sports, especially in UPH itself.
One implementation of this agreement is the plan of holding an Olympic Run in June 2010. Olympic Run will consist of several sport branches, could be joined by public. Some sports that will be competed in this event are running and jogging. “This is an opportunity for the society, especially for young people to participate and have fun, while at the same time exercising,” said Rita. In the future there will be trainings on cause management for olympics and sports. (sar)
