Miss UPH Scholar Crowning Night 2010 has ended Monday (26/04). After going through quarantine for several days, three winners of Miss UPH Scholar 2010 finally announced and one Miss Favorite voted by UPH residents. Mary Rahajeng (Communication Science 2009) as the winner, Juliar Suryani (Management 2008) as the runner up, and Pricilla Christy (International Relations 2009) as the second runner up. Miss UPH Scholar 2010 is the third time held at UPH. Through this event, the finalists are expected to contribute positively to the global community, particularly in UPH environments.

During the quarantine, these women were given stock of knowledge includes beauty, brain, and behavior. One of the most important class is Public Speaking, hosted by Becky Tumewu. This class taught them how to present themselves well in public so that they can perform well at any time and anywhere.

“As Miss UPH, they must present themselves at every environment with a good image,” said Becky. In order for this situation can be achieved, they need some special training regarding the effectiveness of communication. Material covered ranging from voice intonation, body movement, breath regulation, and others. Some problems in public speaking also briefly discussed, ranging from interaction with the audience, tongue slip, blurring accent (porous, shrill), up to face the “stage fright”.

In this session, Miss UPH finalists were given the opportunity to demonstrate their communication skills directly in front of Becky. Furthermore, they are told their own weaknesses then they are given an input so that in the future they can perform better. “If they’ve learned to not repeat the error, it means they have advanced to the stage for better communication. This is very important,” added Becky. “It’s a great opportunity, we learn so much about public speaking: what to be, not what to do, and on top of that, we are being taught by a great professional,” said the first winner, Maria. A Rahajeng. (Sar)
