UPH Faculty of Computer Science Team was selected as one of the winners in Indonesian Rocket Competition (Kompetisi Roket Indonesia ? Korindo) 2010, which was organized by LAPAN in cooperation with DP2M DIKTI, UGM, AAU and Bantul Local Government. This competition took place on Pandansimo beach, Srandakan, Bantul, Yogyakarta, on June 26 to 28, 2010. This competition participated by 73 participants from various Indonesian universities, and 63 teams were selected in preliminary stages, then only 40 teams entering the final round “In this competition, each team was asked to make a payload, which will be launched inside a rocket made by LAPAN.” The payload is a telemetry system, designed to retrieve important information of the rocket during launch, such as the rocket acceleration, orientation, temperature, humidity, and air pressure. In addition the payload must also includes a propulsion system to direct the payload to the shore during descent. Every year there is a progress in the payload specification. Tests conducted in three phases: functional test, launch test, and presentations. This year there are three points that were emphasized by the telemetry aspect assessors, namely: G shock, Vibration and G Force. There are a total of 40 teams at the functional test stage. “At this stage, the payload must be able to reliably transmit data to a ground receiving station by radio in some conditions resembling the real rocket launch.””UPH Payload managed to deliver accurate data,” said Sofyan, a lecturer at UPH Faculty of Computer Science, which accompany UPH team. |
Next on the launch test stage was assessed the accuracy of data transmitted to the ground and at this stage the payload should be lead to 30 degrees from the north of the earth and towards the other angle, and can be directed to land on shore. When the payload launched at a certain altitude the rocket will be burst, and the payload should be come down by the parachute, and landed on shore. “At this stage, UPH?s Payload team managed to deliver accurate data, but because of the strong wind blow, the payload was seperated from the parachute and fell into the sea. However until the end, we managed the payload works well,” he explained. |

In the third stage, 30 teams who followed the launch stage, had to present their obtained data in the presence of five judges consist of Dr. Ing Agus Nuryanto (LAPAN), Dr Endra Pitowarno (PENS-ITS), Dr Indrawanto (ITB), Dr Wahidin Wahab (UI), and Dr. Heru Susanto (UGM). The first winner was Politeknik Elektronika Negri Surabaya, second winner was UPH and third winner was Universitas Komputer Indonesia, Bandung. The UPH team are William, Rudyanto Sudarman, and Alloysius Aldo According to a committee, Dr. Jayan Sentanuhady, as UGM?s released, the competition is intended to encompass interests and achievements of students in a cargo rocket system design. This is expected to channel the creativity and innovation of human resources of this country which is increasingly qualified. Success of the team from the Department of Computer Engineering is not possible without the support of various parties including: Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering Department, Department of Industrial Engineering, Department of Product Design, and Laboratory of Physics UPH. “The faculty is very supportive, and we will be more focus on following prestigious competitions like this,” said Sofyan. “Existing lab facilities and faculty guidance is also very supportive in our preparation,” added William. For the next competition, UPH will better prepare their team. “Obviously we will collect basic stuff from this competition, so it does not need to be repeated by the next team,” said Sofyan. “I think UPH team did not lose from another team. In terms of analyzing the problems, they can think quickly and find a solution,” he added. (ros) |
