Han Yoo Ra, UPH Communications student from batch 2010, was selected as Miss UPH Scholar 2011 on Monday, April 18, 2011. The Korean native could not help crying when she was crowned by Miss UPH Scholar 2010, Maria Rahajeng.
Beauty, intelligence, and character are the qualities Yoo Ra possesses as the newly-crowned Miss UPH Scholar. In addition, she also represents the global diversity reflected on the UPH Campus as she is the first and only finalist who is an international student. Yoo Ra impressed the judging panel as she delivered a great performance and offered insightful answers throughout the evening. When asked about her new role as Miss UPH Scholar 2011, Yoo Ra said, ?I?m going to make a change. It is unity in diversity. As a foreigner, I am going to introduce a foreign perspective at UPH and represent UPH as a Global Campus.? Vice President for Student Development and Spiritual Growth, Dr. J. Kirk Kauffeldt, Ed.D., who served as a judge for the Miss UPH event said that he was very impressed by Han Yoo Ra. ?She did so well. She deserves to be Miss UPH Scholar. She?s a Korean native, but what really helps her is that she has lived here for seven years, and she loves Indonesia. She?s from outside the country, but she?s really an insider,? Dr. Kauffeldt observed. Regarding the role of Miss UPH Scholar, Dr. Kauffeldt also explained his plan for expanding the role: ?We want to strengthen the role of Miss UPH, have her involved in student life?increase her profile. We want to see her involved with orientation at the UPH Festival, welcoming the new students, and attending marketing events to be an ambassador for UPH.? UPH Rector Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc. said that the event was created to discover a student who not only possesses beauty, but also intelligence, character, and positive behavior. ?Miss UPH Scholar must reflect the vision and mission of UPH: true knowledge, faith in God, and Godly character,? he explained. The other finalists included Han Yoo Ra chosen as Miss Congeniality along with Joanna Yushi as Miss Favorite. Conservatory of Music student Kezia Amelia was the first runner up, and Tiffany Nicole from Medicine was second. (dee) UPH Media Relations |
