Corban University Visit to UPH

Several guests from Corban University, Oregon, USA came to UPH this week. One of them is Dr. Matt Lucas, who is Provost and Executive Vice President of Corban University that delivered his speech on UPH Commencement XIX on May 28, 2011.

In order to welcome their visit, on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc. as the UPH Rector and Gary A. Miller, Ph.D. as the Executive Vice Chancellor/President of UPH gave presentation to introduce UPH to them.

Parapak opened the first presentation and explained about ?Pelita Harapan Foundation.? He explained about Pelita Harapan University, Dian Harapan School, and especially Lentera Harapan School. ?Pelita, Dian, Lentera, all three have meaning Light, with hope that we can be the light through the world of education? he said. He also explained more about the Lentera Harapan School (Sekolah Lentera Harapan-SLH) which will be extablished within the next few years in several areas in Indonesia, such as: Toraja, Kupang, Ambon, Papua, Medan, and many others.

Miller then delivered a presentation entitled ?UPH-Preparing the Next Generation Leaders.? He explained about the vision, mission, and values of UPH generally. ?Transforming lives through holistic Christian education by the power of God for the benefit of His Kingdom, bless Indonesia by preparing leaders who glorify God and serve others, and the last by name KFC that stands for true Knowledge, faith in God, and Godly character,? explained him. ?UPH is dedicated to growing students in mind and character to fulfill their personal goals while also faithfully serving the people of Indonesia,? he added.

Around 15 participants joined this event. They were also invited for a campus tour afterwards. (pty)
