Green Concern Media Indonesia in cooperation with WWF and Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 held talkshow and workshop entitled ?Proud to be Green.? The seminar attended by approximately 100 participants invited speakers Jatna as the Head of International Conservation, expert of forest and green environment in Indonesia, Dita Ramadhani as WWF Communication Officer, and Marcell Chandrawinata as the ambassador of WWF Indonesia.

With moderator Rosmery Sihombing from Media Indonesia, the 2,5-hour talkshow discussed about the lack of forest in Indonesia these days. ?Our forests have the richest diversity but we don?t use it. We do not have the capability to optimize our forests to bring welfare to ourselves,? Jatna stated. He also explained how Indonesians live with food imports whereas our forests should be able to support our nation if it is not misused.

Dita also campaigned for the use of goods made of woods with FSC label. The FSC logo indicates that the woods used are the environmentally friendly. By using the products, we are slowly helping to restore our forests.

The talkshow session was then followed with journalism workshop from Media Indonesia represented by editor?s assistant Iis Jatmika. Iis introduced the world of journalism and the news writing process until it is reached by the readers to approximately 25 participants. ?A journalist must possess curiosity, skeptic, and he is willing to act,? told her.

The participants were enthusiastic to join the feature writing competition themed Green Concern. The winner will have his article published in Media Indonesia and become the speaker on Green Radio and Tempo TV. (dee)
