Preliminary Round | The bridge was evaluated based on the strength and design | Final Round: Physics test |
UPH Civil Engineering Student Body held Believe, Beyond Civil Engineering, on Monday-Thursday, October 24-27, 2011 at UPH. This annual event featured various unique competitions or high school and university students and seminars. Being organized for eight times, Spaghetti Bridge Competition (SBC) was one of the competitions held for high school students. Joined by 56 teams, each consisting of 3 persons, the participants must create a bridge miniature out of spaghetti. The bridge would be evaluated based on strength and design. SBC was held in three days, starting from October 24 and 25 for the preliminary round. There were six teams chosen from the preliminary round to move forward to the final round where they had to do a physics test. The final was held on October 27, 2011. Edward Rizky Tatimu, the head of SBC Committee, stated, ?we hope that these high school students will get interested in Civil Engineering by joining the competition.? Three teams were chosen as winner of SBC. Kalam Kudus 2 took the third place, Don Bosco 2 took the second place, while Mahanaim took the first place. Other competition held was Earthquake Resistance Bridge Competition (ERBC). Considering Indonesia is in the earthquake prone-region, the committee held the second ERBC. Filly, the head of ERBC Committee, said, ?through this competition, I want every civil engineering student from other universities pay attention to the importance of bridges as the connectors of regions in Indonesia.? Besides that, through this event, they hoped to establish good relations with civil engineering students from other universities. In this competition, the eight participants from Universitas Guna Dharma, Universitas Bina Nusantara, Politeknik Negeri Jakarta, and Universitas Tarumanegara asked to create a bridge prototype. The weight of bridge prototypes must be less than 35 grams. The prototype was then evaluated based on the proposals, aesthetics, and efficiency. The winners of this competition are the team from the Universitas Guna Dharma who took the first place and Universitas Bina Nusantara who took the second and third place.(dee&bs) UPH Media Relations |
