2011 TEFL Workshop: TEFL INNOVATORS, WANTED!!!

On Wednesday, November 30, 2011 UPH English Department held 2011 TEFL Workshop. “TEFL innovators, WANTED!” is a part of community service projects from the UPH English Department.

The participants were students from UPH, UPI Bandung, and high school teachers.

On Wednesday, November 30, 2011 UPH English Department held 2011 TEFL Workshop. “TEFL innovators, WANTED!” is a part of community service projects from the UPH English Department. Two speakers in the General Session were Abby Kleir, MA, from Azusa Pacific University and Prof. Kitty Purgason from Biola University.

On their presentation, Prof. Kitty Purgason and Abby Kleir shared various tips in teaching. “Think of your self as a learner,” said Abby Kleir. By considering ourselves as learners, we can discover many things.

Approximately 97 people participated in the workshop that started at 08.15 until 16.00 in building B, 6th floor, room 601, campus UPH, Lippo Village. The participants were students from UPH, UPI Bandung, and high school teachers. In this workshop, participants were provided with many information and new knowledge about innovations in technology and lecturing globally. “We hope that after attending this workshop, participants can improve the quality of learning by making innovations in terms of text books, lessons, technology, and also the collaboration between the English teachers,” said Yonathan Winardi, the Project Manager of TEFL.

After the general sessions, participants were then divided into parallel sessions in accordance with the session of their choice. The topics in parallel sessions were “Consideration factors for Successful integration of ICT into ELT classrooms in TPI”, “Impact of Home Parliamentary Debate Competition and Training for Secondary School Students”, “A win-win solution: An approach to peer -editing through Facebook “,” Pictorial journal writing for Young Learners “,” Inspiring Films in ELT “,” Jcow Learning Community: applying the concept of folksonomy “,” Fun, Adaptable Games for your Classic Class “,” 10 Innovations That your Home Department Might Have Forgotten to Teach You “, and” Innovation in Vocabulary Games.” (bs)
