On Thursday, January 26, 2012, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) in cooperation with Palang Merah Indonesia (Indonesia?s Red Cross) held Seminar Hukum Humaniter Internasional (International Humanitarian Law Seminar) discussing the law regarding the use of Red Cross symbol. In addition, the routine blood donation event was also held.
This event invited Muhammad Muas as the head of PMR, volunteer, and Information Technology. In the seminar paper, Muas explained the importance of symbol law. PMI?s symbol is now widely arbitrarily used and misused. Drugs store or herbal treatment center use the red cross sign. ?The symbol is the identity of an organization. It is only using one symbol as the signature sign,? Muas told. This is what makes the regulating law important. ?Every country has the law, except Indonesia,? he added. The topic was then further discussed by three speakers coming from various background; Prof. Dr. Jeanne Neltje Sally from Badan Pembinaan Hukum Nasional/BPHN who is also a lecturer from UPH Graduate Campus., Rina Rusman as legal advisor of International Red Cross and ICRC, and Reza from the navy. The blood donation event is routinely held at UPH every semester. This time, with theme ?There is Hope in Every Drop?, the event successfully donated approximately 100 blood pockets out of more than 200 applicants. (dee) |
