UPH Moot Court team for the third time is representing Indonesia in Washington DC to compete in the International Rounds of Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition. This most prestigious competition for law students will be held on March 24-31, 2012.
After taking home the runner up trophy at the national rounds held in Bandung, February 3-5, 2012, the team, consisting of Athalia Karima Yedida Soemarko, Selvana Stella Oviona, Jessica Vincentia Marpaung, Jonathan Jehuda Abuthan, Roselyn Prima Winata with coach Jamie Jolene Williams, together with moot court team from Universitas Gajah Mada will represent Indonesia and compete with approximately 120 teams coming from 80 countries. This time, with the case concerning Mai Tocao Temple, the team has prepared themselves since September 2011 with knowledge of law regarding protection of cultural property. As the team consisted of two new members, the team faced more challenges to win. ?This is our first ever mooting in university,? said Jonathan about his first experience in mooting. ?We were the underdog,? said Roselyn, another new member. However, the team has successfully proved themselves. In addition to the first runner up trophy, the team also brought home other three, the best oralist awards. Jessica V. Marpaung took the first place of best oralist while Roselyn took the second and Athalia took the third. As the team captain, Athalia mentioned their target in the international round. ?We want to break the 2009 record when UPH was placed 13th. We also want to place four names among the top 100 oralists,? she explained. (dee) UPH Media Relations |
