Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) joined the annual Education and Training Expo held at Jakarta Convention Center from February 16 ? 19, 2012. For the 21st time, the expo was held to provide information for high school students who want to pursue their study by PT. Wahyu Promo Citra. The expo featured 165 participants coming from various universities and training center across Indonesia.

President Director of PT. Wahyu Promo Citra Muh. Syukur Sakka hoped that the expo could help the young generation to choose the right major and university to pursue their study. ?Only with education, I believe Indonesia could be better in the future,? he stated.

Head of Education Office for DKI Jakarta Taufik Yudi Mulyanto in his opening speech encouraged the talented children who have financial problem to join scholarship program. Meanwhile, Director of Research and Service to the Society of Directorate of Higher Education Prof. Suryo Hapsoro mentioned that education and culture are two inseparable elements. ?Education will improve the intellectual life of the nation, not only the brain,? he added.

There are approximately 3.000 higher education institutions in Indonesia, but there are approximately 5,3 million students here. Therefore, an informational bridge is needed between the two to provide the prospective students information about higher education. ?There is no reason for talented students to not go to school,? Suryo told.

Besides expo, UPH also held a four-day sing along and dance and music video contest for high school students. There were six teams joining the music video contest and eight teams joining the sing along and dance competition.

In this sing along and dance competition, each team must sing to ABBA songs and perform in front of four judges. The music video contest participants would record the performance of the sing-along, dance contest participants, and edit the video using Macbook.

Although ABBA songs were famous way before the students were born, the students were excited to perform their songs, as they were legendary musicians. Verna, one of the participant from Gandhi International School said that they were glad to make a tribute to ABBA. ?We want to do something very different so we do a medley of ABBA songs. It?s a tribute to them. This performance is dedicated to ABBA because they are special,? she explained.

On the last day of the competition, the Ambassador of Sweden Ewa Polano came to see the performances of the winner and hand the winning trophies. (dee)
