On Monday, March 12, 2012 and Wednesday, March 14, 2012, UKM Nihon Utopia opened a caf? at UPH?s Restaurant at Building D, themed ?Enter the World of Fantasy.? This was not an ordinary caf?. There was something unique from the waiters and waitresses; they wore Japanese characters? costumes.

?Actually, there were many cafes with this concept in Japan, but we rarely find it in Indonesia. Therefore we want to introduce this concept to UPH students,? said Yuliana, the Head of Committee of this event. This caf? was not the first costplay caf? opened by UKM Nihon Utopia. Two years ago UKM Nihon Utopia opened a costplay caf? with a different theme.

This caf?, opened at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., offered various interesting menu, especially Japanese and European cuisine. The chefs were from the committee itself, assisted by the Hospitality Management students. To add fantasy nuance, this caf? also provided comics for the guests to read. This caf? got positive responds from the guests.

Nihon Utopia itself is a student activity unit under Art Department. Besides opening costplay caf?, Nihon Utopia also has held an event called ?Senbazuru,? an event about origami making. In addition, Nihon Utopia also has other activity, such as making Japanese food, watching Japanese film together, playing Japanese games, and of course learning Japanese language.

?Today, Nihon Utopia is consisted of about 30 active members. Everyone can join with Nihon Utopia, as long as they are UPH students,? said Yuliana, who also the head of this UKM. Even though there has been no cooperation with external organization, but Nihon Utopia opens up to the opportunity of collaborating with any organizations. Every year Nihon Utopia also cooperates with students from Japanese college by being their tour guide during their visit in Jakarta.

?We hope that we can be a community that introduces the fascinating Japanese culture to UPH students. We also hope that we can hold an event or cooperate with external organization, to facilitate the introduction of Japanese culture to society,? said Yuliana. (sis)
