| March 31st 2012 was Global Earth Hour Day. The date, which was chosen for coinciding with the end of the season of winter to early summer, became an important date for UPH. Not only putting out the lights, UPH, through its students and some staffs also participated in Tangerang?s Earth Hour.
Earth Hour event in Karawaci, which led by Era Surya, an UPH student majoring in Management 2010, appealed the local citizens to succeed this Earth Hour. Started at about 6 pm, the committee began the campaign by walking together from UPH to Benton Junction carrying Earth Hour poster. Not only at Benton Junction, the committee also continued the campaign to Supermall Karawaci?s food court area. |

| Still located at Supermall Karawaci?s food court area, UPH students who were joined in Earth Hour 2012 committee then interacted with the visitors about Earth Hour itself. ?Besides question and answer session, the committee also interviewed the visitors about Earth Hour,? said Era, the Head of Committee. During the event lasted, on 8.30 pm until 9.30 pm, there were some performances, such as dance performance, percussion, and acoustic performance at food court area.
UPH also participated by turning out some lights. ?Due to safety reason, not all of UPH?s lamp could be turned off. Therefore we just focus on Building C and UPH?s symbol on Building C,? Era said. Although Earth Hour was lasted in an hour, but Era expected more. ?Hopefully Earth Hour is not only conducted in this one hour, but it could be a new lifestyle for us to save electricity consumption. I also hope the next Earth Hour can appeal more people to participate. This earth is ours, if it was not us who guard, who else? Turning off unused lamps has already been a little contribution which means a lot to our earth?, Era explained. Besides Karawaci, Earth Hour 2012 also lasted in Tangerang’s central government, coordinated by 6 UPH’s staffs. Tangerang’s DPRD building and Bunderan Adipura on Veteran Street, Tangerang, also turned off their lights for one hour. |
